About the Role:
The Fundraising Specialist plays a strategic role in strengthening the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria’s long-term financial sustainability. This position leads high-value sponsorships and foundation relationships that align with multi-year development goals. With a focus on strategic cultivation, grant writing, and contract fulfillment, the Fundraising Specialist is trusted to independently manage complex funding arrangements. Reporting to the Director of Development & Marketing, this role is ideal for a seasoned fundraising professional who thrives on building relationships, navigating nuanced funding environments, and driving results in a cultural institution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead strategies to secure and grow corporate sponsorships and foundation support
- Cultivate and steward long-term relationships with funders and granting agencies
- Draft grant applications, sponsorship proposals, agreements, and related documents
- Ensure timely fulfillment of sponsor and grant deliverables across department
- Act as the primary point of contact for funding partners, with decision-making authority
- Maintain accurate records in the CRM database and oversee related reporting
- Coordinate impact reporting and gather required assets for contract fulfillment
- Liaise with Finance to ensure accurate invoicing and revenue tracking
- Monitor trends in sponsorship and fundraising to shape strategy
- Support donor recognition and internal cross-functional collaboration
- Represent the Gallery in stakeholder meetings and external networking opportunities
What We're Looking For:
- A university degree in a related field or equivalent combination of experience
- CFRE designation preferred, but not required
- Minimum 5 years’ progressive experience in fundraising, sponsorship, or business development
- Proven success managing high-value, multi-year sponsor and foundation relationships
- Ability to independently manage grant cycles from proposal to reporting
- Strong judgment, discretion, and accountability in decision-making
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with CRM systems (Raiser’s Edge preferred)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Professionalism, diplomacy, and commitment to ethical fundraising practices
- Knowledge of the cultural or non-profit sector is a strong asset
