Our client is looking for a highly skilled and proactive Mid-to-Senior Data Scientist with proven experience in credit risk modeling to join our growing team. In this role, you will play a key part in enhancing our risk pricing and underwriting models, leveraging both internal and external data sources to improve model performance and business outcomes.
This is not a junior-level role - we’re seeking someone who can work independently, challenge
assumptions, propose improvements, and collaborate closely with stakeholders. You should be
comfortable working both as a hands-on contributor and as a strategic thought partner.

About The Opportunity
Our client is looking for a highly skilled and proactive Mid-to-Senior Data Scientist with proven experience in credit risk modeling to join our growing team. In this role, you will play a key part in enhancing our risk pricing and underwriting models, leveraging both internal and external data sources to improve model performance and business outcomes.

assumptions, propose improvements, and collaborate closely with stakeholders. You should be
comfortable working both as a hands-on contributor and as a strategic thought partner.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Enhance Risk Models: Update weightings on current credit risk pricing and underwriting models using recent data and automate monthly refresh processes
- Data Exploration: Analyze Vault’s historical data to identify new predictive variables that improve model performance
- Algorithm Evaluation: Trial and compare various machine learning algorithms to optimize model effectiveness
- Database Architecture: Use strong SQL skills to support both data science tasks and improvements to database infrastructure, our data is not yet where we need it to be
- Recommendation engine: Suggest other vault products to clients based on preferences by past clients
- Data Integration: Research and integrate new external datasets (e.g., social, demographic) to enrich risk modeling
- Market Analysis: Identify and utilize external data to assess the risk and profitability of new products and markets under consideration
- Chatbot Customization: Train and tune leading chatbot models on Internal vault knowledge and data to create improved self-serve resources. Potentially for clients as well
The successful candidate will have the following:
- Experience: 4-7+ years of experience in data science with a strong focus on credit risk modeling
- Technical Expertise:
- Advanced SQL for querying, data manipulation, and database design
- Proficient in Python or R for model development and analysis
- Experience with machine learning libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, XGBoost)
- Mindset: A problem-solver who takes initiative, challenges norms, and proposes better ways of doing things
- Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with technical and non-technical teams
- Location: Must be based in Ontario and available to work on-site 2 days per week
