About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager of Child and Adolescent Services, Mental Health and Addictions, the Social Worker works with children and adolescents up to the 19th birthday providing assessment and treatment for children and adolescents who have mental health or concurrent disorders. Child and Adolescent Services is a multi-discipline service (which includes psychology, social work, psychiatry, addiction clinical therapists and, behavioral interventionists) that provides service in the main outpatient clinic, schools, and satellite clinics. Services can include individual, family based, or group therapy. The social worker’s responsibilities may also include supervising case managers and behavioral interventionists. The successful candidate is a team player who works flexibly to best meet the needs of the clients and the service. The social worker is able to create and provide evidence-based educational presentations to clients, families, other agencies, and fellow staff members on topics relating to mental health and concurrent disorders. Grand rounds presentations are required as part of this job. Evening and daytime hours and travel is required.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Master's degree of Social Work
- Registered or eligible to be registered with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers
- Two (2) years clinical experience required working with an adult population providing time-limited, evidence-based psycho-social assessments and treatments to adults (19 years and older) with Tier-3 mental disorders
- Demonstrated skills in DSM formulation
- Demonstrated skills in applying time limited, evidence-based psycho-social assessments and treatments for mental disorders to an adult (19 years and older) patient population, and commitment to same
- Demonstrated knowledge of Stepped Care principles, clinical care pathways, and outcomes monitoring, and commitment to same
- Demonstrated knowledge of clinical supervision, learning and professional development, and commitment to same
- Demonstrated skills in providing culturally informed non-judgmental patient and family center care, and commitment to same
- Experience in providing supervision to psychology residents, students, and peers
- A working theoretical and practical knowledge of psychological testing applicable to an adult patient population
- Motivated with a strong customer service orientation building solid health care patients/partner relationships
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize information, problem solve and utilize good judgment in decision making
- Demonstrated planning, organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Experience training and/or acting as a resource for other allied health care professionals and medical specialists
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours
- Long assignment, full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
- Assignment is approximately 16 months in length
Compensation and Benefits
$40.18 - $54.14 Hourly
