The Retail Credit Learning & Development Specialist (1 Year Contract) will support the design and development of retail credit’s internal training programs to enhance our lending team’s skills and knowledge with an emphasis on BVCU’s policies, procedures, and best practices to support the member experience and mitigate risk.


With their strong background in retail lending, the successful individual will also be able to undertake complex retail credit adjudication, as well as helping lenders structure sound credit applications.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:


Learning & Development

  • Supports conducting needs assessments to help identify training gaps and develop learning objectives, with a focus on strategic alignment with business goals
  • Assists with designing, developing, and delivering engaging training materials
  • Aids in evaluating the effectiveness of training programs using metrics and analytics to make recommendations
  • Stays up to date on industry best practices in learning and development, particularly in the retail credit space, and champion innovative training solutions
  • Collaborates with subject matter experts and senior leaders to ensure training content is accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with organizational objectives


Support & Guidance

  • Provides advice and direction to lenders regarding the analysis, structuring, and negotiation of credit applications and related documentation
  • Acts as a resource for all lending matters including collections, delinquency controls, and loss prevention
  • Assists and performs Loan Transaction Review Worksheets of lending staff and other reviews and reporting as required with documentation and trend analysis to senior management to improve training and development


Organizational Development

  • Assists in developing and implementing credit policies and procedures
  • Provides recommendations to senior management regarding improving departmental efficiencies and processes


Credit Adjudication

  • Adjudicates larger, more complex loan applications and renewals where amounts requested exceed branches’ approval levels, including high ratio insured credit, meeting BVCU's SLAs
  • Completes of financial analysis, security valuations, and terms/conditions of the credit request to ensure that approved applications are appropriately structured to minimize risk of default and loss, ensuring timely and accurate enhancements to the application
  • Identifies viable alternatives or revisions to security, terms and conditions to minimize the risk of default
  • Recommends acceptable credit applications that require higher level authorization, including Credit Committee and CUDGC, and presents/supports the application


Compliance Responsibilities

  • Possesses working knowledge of credit related policies and procedures, credit investigation and analysis
  • Ensures all policies and procedures in daily activities to meet safety, legal, and privacy requirements
  • Ensures compliance with applicable regulations, legislation, and BVCU policies and procedures, through a lens of mitigating enterprise risk factors which may impact the credit portfolio by keeping current and applying knowledge as appropriate
  • Works closely with Lending Services Team, ensure risk and internal controls are in place

  • Strong planning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability recognize global implications of decisions; able to understand how to structure a retail credit deal, being flexible as appropriate
  • Strong computer skills, able to pick up new and existing programs related to the job quickly
  • Solution focused with a results-oriented attitude, and flexible in delivering on expectations
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and meet deadlines

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 6 years in a financial services environment, including a minimum of 4 years in a credit role with a preference giving to those with previous learning and development roles
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of credit lending guidelines and policy
  • Business-minded professional who aligns business objectives and capabilities with the technical aspect of our business to achieve results
  • Committed to continuous learning and development
  • Self-starter with the ability to work in team environment


THE FINE PRINT:

  • This full time position is on-site at our Cochrane Administration Office
  • Working Hours: Monday – Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
  • Must be bondable and have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
