Position Summary
The construction Estimator will be part of our Special Projects team. You will be the lead Estimator on RFP submittals and some tendered projects. You will be responsible for managing your own workflow and deadlines across multiple projects. You will work directly with the VSP management team and liaise with the Ventana Director of Preconstruction for project reviews.

The construction Estimator will be part of our Special Projects team. You will be the lead Estimator on RFP submittals and some tendered projects. You will be responsible for managing your own workflow and deadlines across multiple projects. You will work directly with the VSP management team and liaise with the Ventana Director of Preconstruction for project reviews.
As An Estimator Your Key Accountabilities Will Involve
- Reviewing proposal specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work and required contents of the estimate.
- Communicating with trades to research their scope of work and obtain budget rates.
- Creating the estimate for an entire project, including both elemental analysis and tender work.
- Completing take-off of all VSP scope of work and managing the entire subtrade process to provide a complete bid price.
- Creating basic project schedules.
- Providing input on work plans and narratives for RFP submittals.
- Actively participating in client, consultant, and trade meetings during preconstruction.
- Delivering follow-up meeting task items to the project team regarding costing, schedule, and constructability.
- Assisting with the handover of a project to Operations team members, including a complete description of all cost items.
- Assisting Project Managers when required in negotiation and award of subtrade contracts.
- Performing additional assignments as necessary to further your knowledge and proactively increase department efficiency.
- The ability to perform effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, and deadline-oriented environment.
- The ability to work effectively with limited supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- The ability to build solid long-lasting relationships.
- The ability to anticipate problems and solve them proactively.
- A high attention to detail.
- A high degree of professionalism and maturity.
- Strong time management skills, particularly the ability to prioritize a multitude of tasks.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
- Proven 2-3 years’ experience as a construction estimator.
- A solid understanding of various construction methods and solutions.
- Developing your own ideas and collaborating with others to explore the construction process and how a building is constructed.
- Basic understanding of bonding and insurance requirements and forms.
- Diploma of Building Technology or other qualification will be an asset.
