Job Summary: Under the supervision of the OSCS Principal, the Okanagan Language Teacher Apprentice position will support the Language and Culture team to offer a balanced education program that empowers students to be responsible for their own success as Syilx. The nsyilxcen apprentice teacher collaborates with the classroom teachers and other Okanagan Language teachers to ensure the language and culture of the Okanagan are taught. The nsyilxcen teacher apprentice will promote a positive and safe learning environment. It is also imperative that quality education is achieved for all students and is delivered through programs that integrate the Provincial curriculum and Okanagan culture and language curriculum.
The Okanagan Language Teacher Apprentice will work towards becoming a proficient language speaker leading into teaching at OSCS as a Okanagan Language and Culture Teacher. This position offers hands on training in working in a cultural school, teaching methodologies, and curriculum development.

- The successful applicant will be mentored by current Language and Culture teachers at OSCS and will gradually, over time, take on lesson planning, instruction, and evaluation.
- Understanding of the Penticton Indian Band community
- Specialize Training in alternate education settings.
- Bachelor Degree in Arts, Sciences, Languages, or Education
- Paul Creek Curriculum Level One and/or Level Two
- DSTC Program – Okanagan Language and Culture courses
- BCCT Language Teacher Certificate
- Continued professional development to deepen understanding of language teaching methodologies and educational best practices.
- Semi-fluent or fluent in the Okanagan Language
- OSCS Language and Culture Curriculum
- Provincial Curriculum from K-8
