Shift Supervisor Job Description

A McDonald’s Shift Supervisor is responsible for providing coaching, training, and motivation to crew and other supervisors/managers. Shift Supervisors plan for each shift using pre-shift tools for all areas, lead informative shift huddles, motivate the team throughout the shift, monitor performance, and take any corrective action needed to meet the guest demand. The Shift Supervisor will ensure the team is meeting McDonald’s operational standards while monitoring safety, security, and profitability in all areas of the restaurant. Shift Supervisors are responsible for meeting targets during their shifts and for helping their assigned departments meet their goals.

Salary $20.60 per hour. Full time would include 8 hours of work per day, 5 days a week, flexible shift schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and may include overnights. 2 flexible days off. Part time to be negotiated upon hire to ensure job duties are available within available hours.

Work schedules include shifts to a maximum of 8.5 hours of work and 30 minutes of break. Depending on the business operation, these shifts will vary from early morning, afternoon, evening, and/or overnight.

On-Floor Shift Management and Area Supervision: 85-90%

Administrative Tasks: 10-15%


Duties include:

  • Supervise, coordinate, and schedule the activities of staff who prepare, portion and serve food
  • Leads the shift as designated "Shift Supervisor", assigning and working through area supervisors to achieve business results. When not assigned as the Shift Supervisor, may be assigned as area supervisor supporting the shift
  • Communicates plan for success to area supervisors in designated area (shift huddle)
  • Completes travel path every 30 minutes and provides direction and coaching to staff on shift to ensure customer service and business standards are being met
  • Helps maintain standard for raw and finished product quality, service and speed, quality and cleanliness
  • Maintain records of stock, sales, and wastage
  • Train and manage staff in job duties, food safety practices, business practices, and health and safety procedures
  • Follows cash handling procedures including handling and reconciling cash floats as well as balancing and recording safe contents
  • Liaise with guests to ensure a positive relationship with customers including reacting to complaints in a professional manner
  • Establish methods to meet work schedules
  • Demonstrates and enforces a high standard of people and employment practices
  • Extensive communication with multiple client groups including staff, management team, customers, leadership team
  • May be assigned to a department team and perform duties that assist the Department Manager such as preparing hiring documents or helping with the ordering of raw/paper items and inventory counts
  • Attend manager/supervisor meetings led by the General Manager as well as department meetings led by the Department Manager. May present on topics pertaining to department assistant duties

Qualifications

  • Several years of experience in food preparation or food service are required
  • 2-4 years of recent restaurant or food-related management experience in a quick service, high volume setting. McDonald’s experience is an asset. *recent defined as within the last 3-5 years
  • Demonstrates a basic/intermediate level of written and verbal communication
  • Holds valid First Aid and Food safety certifications (company to provide first class for qualified candidates if needed)
  • A permanent position; requires applicant to be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or legally entitled to work in Canada for 12 months or greater. This position does not include an LMIA
