Role: Accounting Technician
Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

The Opportunity
As an Accounting Technician you will support everything from full-cycle accounting to payroll, GST, and intercompany transactions across a diverse portfolio of companies. Gaining valuable experience in cross-provincial operations, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experts in development, construction and property management. With mentorship from an experienced controller and exposure to everything from progress billing to construction holdbacks, you’ll build technical confidence in a role that balances structure with autonomy.
Key Responsibilities
As the Accounting Technician you will work collaboratively and are responsible for:
1. Accounting & Finance
- Manage and process full-cycle accounts payable and receivable including coding, posting, reconciliations, and payment preparation (EFTs, cheques, and transfers) and Pre-Authorized Debit tracking across multiple entities.
- Prepare journal entries, support month-end and year-end processes, and assist with financial reporting including balance sheets, income statements, and unsold unit tracking.
- Support GST and PST filings with a solid grasp of submission requirements; contribute to intercompany reconciliation and project-based accounting aligned with residential construction and property management.
- Reconcile intercompany loans, record intercompany transactions, and assist with fixed assets, depreciation calculations, and WCB/insurance documentation.
- Maintain detailed records of project-based billing (e.g., progress billing and holdbacks), vendor adjustments, and financial transactions tied to property development and sales.
2. Payroll & Compliance
- Prepare and process payroll including bonuses, vacation payouts, overtime, and taxable benefits for in-house staff using Sage.
- Ensure payroll accuracy and compliance by reviewing time entries, processing source deductions, submitting T4s and ROEs, and reconciling remittances.
- Provide payroll reporting and administrative support for government-funded student placements and employee leave tracking.
- Uphold confidentiality and regulatory standards in all payroll documentation and employment records.
3. Cross-Functional Operations & Administration
- Assist with the onboarding of new legal entities including CRA account registrations and administrative setup.
- Participate in the transition from paper-based workflows to digital accounting processes, contributing to functional improvements that align with Lean methodology.
- Prepare and deliver bank deposits when needed, support administrative duties across departments, and take initiative to resolve or identify any outstanding tasks not clearly assigned.
- Contribute to weekly accounting meetings with a solution-focused mindset.
Qualifications
As the Accounting Technician you will bring:
- A Diploma or Certificate in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 2-5 years of accounting experience, ideally with exposure to payroll, construction, or property management environments.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP), and basic accounting functions.
- Practical experience using Sage, Yardi, Construction Online, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools.
- A foundational understanding of project sequencing and construction accounting, along with basic familiarity with rental property accounting and terminology.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with suppliers, stakeholders, and team members.
- Ability to work in a flexible environment with evolving responsibilities, demonstrating creativity in problem-solving and process development.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements within the department, contributing to the development of new methodologies that integrate conservation and finance.
- Demonstrate the ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with the ability to make occasional bank deposits as needed.
