Semi Auto Welder (SAW & GMAW Overlay) Welder
Hourly rate: $36.67 – Fully Qualified (starts at Learner 1: $31.16/hr; Learner 2: $33.00/hr; Learner 3: $34.83)

Primary Function
Performs semi-automatic weld processes and manual welding at the all-position level or lower on Company products.

Primary Function
Performs semi-automatic weld processes and manual welding at the all-position level or lower on Company products.
TASKS
- Reads and interprets Work Orders, Drawings, Shop Instruction Sheet (SIS), Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS), Welding Card; identify and verify workpiece material. settings, weld head, power sources.
- Performs semi-auto welding includes but not limited to:
- Overlay
oCircular
- Submerged Arc
oCirc Seam
oNozzle Welding/back gouging
oBuildups
oStrip Cladding
- Sets up Overlay machine adjusting for correct settings of amperage, voltage, speed oscillation, etc. and ensures the preheating and post heating sequences are performed. Checks welds to ensure proper spacing, width, and height of beads; buffs or hand grinds out welded areas prior to next pass or layer. Follows procedures to maintain parameters and special cleanliness on surface to be welded. Services machine by cleaning track, wire guides, and replaces contact tubes, filler wire, hoses, etc.
- Sets up components to be welded, SAW (sub arc) equipment adjusting weld parameters such as feeds, speeds etc., To WPS instructions to obtain welds that conform to pressure
preheating and post heating, arc air gouging, slag removal, grinding as necessary for sub
arc operations.
- Transports material and workpiece to welding machine manually or by hooking for
blocks, jigs etc.
- Performs all position welding to support own job. Run-off tabs, backing bars, etc.
- Completes records and documentation as required. Works in a safe manner.
- Demonstrates good workmanship and reverts to Utility or General Helper duties as
Qualifications
- Successfully completed a welding program
- Basic understanding of blueprints
- 1 year of welding experience in a manufacturing environment
- TSSA or CWB welding tickets considered an asset.
- Ability and willingness to be trained and certified for Working at Heights.
- Must pass two (2) pre-employment weld test:
- Manual SMAW 2G (horizontal) & Manual FCAW 2G (horizontal). 3/8” plate test. Test
- Must be available to work all shifts:
- Days: 6:00 am to 4:00 pm. (Mon – Thurs) OR
- Afternoons: 4:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m. (Mon – Thurs) OR
- Weekend days: 6:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Fri, Sat, Sun; paid for 40 hours).
- Weekend afternoons: 5:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m. (Fri, Sat, Sun; paid for 40 hours)
