Reporting to the Dean & Registrar, the Training Specialist I will be instrumental in developing engaging and relevant training and learning materials for Edmonton Fire Rescue Services members. This position involves a collaborative approach, working closely with other training professionals and EFRS subject matter experts to design and develop various learning courses, including classroom, online, practical, and blended formats. You will be responsible for creating multimedia content, analyzing external training programs for potential adoption, and meticulously maintaining training records within the learning management system. This role is key to ensuring that EFRS members receive high-quality, up-to-date training that aligns with their operational needs.

Up to 1 permanent full-time position
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week
Salary Range: $37.001 - $46.508 (Hourly); $77,258.090 - $97,108.700 (Annually)
Salary ranges are in the process of being updated in accordance with the recently ratified collective agreement between the City and CSU 52 and will be forthcoming shortly.

This role is key to ensuring that EFRS members receive high-quality, up-to-date training that aligns with their operational needs.
What will you do?
- Design and develop comprehensive classroom, online, practical, and blended learning courses, ensuring they are grounded in adult education principles
- Create diverse multimedia objects, including graphics, photos, and video, to enhance training content
- Prepare instructional aids such as training manuals, handouts, and presentations
- Develop stand-alone online modules or pre-course work for in-person training
- Analyze external training programs and provide recommendations for EFRS adoption
- Copy edit, proofread, and format training documents to maintain consistency and standards
- Collaborate effectively with subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure training content is engaging, accurate, and meets the needs of EFRS members
- Coach and advise SMEs on developing course material
- Administer the learning management system (LMS), including course creation, student enrollment, and configuration
- Support document management processes, including maintaining file naming standards
- Verify, input, and document submitted training records into the LMS, external certification portals, or other filing systems
- Report on training records, including completion progress and per-student credentials
- Other duties as assigned
- University graduation from a recognized program in education, such as a Bachelor of Education Degree
- A minimum of two (2) years' experience working in the field of adult education and/or developing course curriculum
- Experience with the development of Articulate Storyline and Rise projects or comparable e-Learning software
- Experience as an administrator of Desire2Learn or other learning management systems
- Strong skills with Adobe Suite
- Strong skills using artificial intelligence, including Google Gemini, to accelerate effective training planning and development
- Strong skills with Google Suite
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong communication skills
- Strong ability to provide guidance and advice to subject matter experts to prevent conflicting training goals
- Must be able to work independently and in collaboration with others and as part of a team
- Ability to manage constant deadline pressure and multiple simultaneous projects
- Adept at quickly coaching SMEs to contribute efficiently
- Proficiency in prioritizing daily work based on changing deadlines
- Ability to quickly intake new information (e.g., NFPA standards, firefighter input) and translate it into effective adult education

- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position
- Hire is dependent on Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position

- This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
