What does this role look like?
The CBE understands the future of work is flexible. In this role, you are eligible to participate in a flexible work program that allows you to work remotely for up to three days a week. A minimum of two days must be in the office. At certain times, you maybe be required to work in the office more then 2 days per week based on operational requirements.
Position Description
Purpose
Reporting to the Manager, Digital Communications, the Multimedia Designer/Developer develops and maintains the design and content of the CBE’s online environments including, but not limited to, external websites, school websites, portals, mass communication systems and social media environments. This position works closely with the Manager, Digital Communications, Senior Multimedia Designer/Developer, other members of the web design team and internal clients to plan content, build and maintain effective web pages and sites that meet client expectations and user needs.
The position:
- supports the execution of the digital communications strategy
- collaborates with internal clients and members of the communications team to recommend, build and maintain effective online environments that meet the communication and educational needs of the organization and its stakeholders;
- supports the execution of digital communication projects from design to completion ensuring the work is high quality, accurate and delivered on-time and on brand; and
- supports the social media strategy of the system and provides recommendations for improvements
To succeed, the web designer/developer will:
- bring expertise and knowledge to ensure all online environments are built and managed with excellence (relevant content, high visual quality, easy navigation, strong communications/marketing impact, "user friendly" and compliant with CBE visual identity standards);
- provide guidance and support to CBE employees and schools; and
- support execution of projects from design to completion ensuring the work is high quality, meeting business objectives and delivered on-time and on-brand.
Accountability
The role is accountable for:
- designing, managing and updating digital communication assets including developing and maintaining web standards
- supporting content owners by providing necessary design and content editing to keep the digital communication fresh, relevant and easily accessible
- ensuring the web “assets” follow industry best practices and CBE visual identity standards;
- providing support to the Manager, Digital Communications on the overall digital communication strategy
- collaborating with other members of the communications team and the client to advise the best approach to deliver messages effectively;
- providing effective and timely support to school-based and service unit content owners/editors for web design services and other support including trouble-shooting, guidance and/or recommendations regarding appropriate use of technologies, and business practices;
- keeping the Digital Communications Manager apprised of the status of projects and initiatives; client, stakeholder or employee issues; and opportunities for continuous improvement;
- modelling exceptional personal communication; and
- maintaining the confidentiality of information and adhering to policy, regulatory and legislative requirements (including the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act) and AR 1063, 1064, 1067.
Major responsibilities
Under the direction of the Digital Communications Manager, the Multimedia Designer/Developer will:
- update and refresh design, copy and graphics to keep sites relevant and current for its audiences ensuring changes “fit” with the overall web strategy. This may involve “doing the work” on behalf of the clients or providing support and guidance to service unit and/or school website administrators;
- design and produce finished electronic multimedia for the web environments as required;
- provide advice, guidance and support to users to resolve technical problems or deliver a communications solution, including online tutorials, instructions and other self-help options;
- contribute to the design, development, editing and uploading of interactive applications such as interactive web quizzes, online surveys, discussion boards, etc.;
- create and incorporate media elements such as audio, video, animation and graphics using multimedia and web design software applications, HTML and other web-related programming languages;
- provide internal business partners with information/recommendations on visual identity standards as required;
- monitor and analyse web site analytics and make recommendations for improvements;
- continuously strive to develop new skills and knowledge of emerging design and web-based technologies, including end-to-end solutions that include photography and videography elements; and
- perform other related responsibilities as assigned to meet the purpose and accountabilities of the role.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- certificate from an accredited post-secondary institution, art school or recognized program in communications or a related field with an emphasis on web or graphic design;
- minimum two (2) years related experience in a new media, graphics design or web based role demonstrating progression in scope, complexity and project management related to web publishing and multimedia;
- an equivalent combination of related post-secondary education and directly related experience may be considered;
- proficiency in multimedia and web design software applications such as Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Office, Concept Interactive SchoolBundle, and SchoolMessenger Communicate;
- understanding of database design and development is an asset;
- demonstrated ability to develop and produce web materials to communicate with a broad range of audiences; and
- strong knowledge of MAC and PC computer systems;
- experience in Final Cut software an asset.
