The Successful Candidate Will

  • Lead and mentor a team of Lifeguards and/or Instructors to ensure the safety and delivery of quality instructional, rental or drop in programming.
  • Take the lead on any first aid emergencies with the primary objective of preserving life, prevent further injury and promote recovery.
  • Respond to enquires from the public and provide ideas on improving customer experience.
  • Lead engaging stations at staff training that will hone the staff’s skills and prepare them for upcoming sessions.
  • Build rapport with facility staff by effectively communicating any environmental hazards that could impact the delivery of pool programming.
  • Responsible for enforcing Town policies and procedures, while ensuring that facilities are securely opened and closed, ready to be used by the public.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years experience as an Instructor/Lifeguard recommended.
  • Current holder of Lifesaving Swim Instructor/Lifesaving Instructor National Lifeguard (NL), Standard First Aid/CPR C, Lifesaving Society Aquatic Supervisor certification.
  • High Five (Principles of Healthy Child Development) certification required.
  • Strong public relations, interpersonal, supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively and courteously with staff, public, program participants and user groups.
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts including days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Experience and strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Current Safe Management/Non-Violent Crisis Prevention certification or equivalent required.
  • Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.

Please Note: Certifications are not required at time of application but must be obtained prior to job commencement. The Town of Newmarket may offer opportunities for certification.
