Schedule: For this summer, the person will work from Monday to Thursday from 5am to 3:30pm (40 hours in 4 days!)

In this essential role, you will support the Quality and Operations teams by ensuring our products meet the highest standards of safety and excellence. Your responsibilities will include conducting pre-operational inspections to confirm the facility is ready for production, enforcing Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and performing quality testing on both raw materials and finished blends. You will also play a vital role in ensuring compliance with our internal standard operating procedures, company policies, and industry best practices. What would be your main responsibilities as a QA Technician ?:
- Perform pre-operational inspection checks by ensuring scales and other production equipment in the facility are checked for functionality and food safety prior to production start-up
- Inspect raw materials, blended products, and packaging for compliance
- Verify and monitors lot numbers to ensure no expired ingredients are being used for production
- Ensure the employees are adhering to GMPs as it relates to food safety and H&S
- Initiate product hold as required per the specific deviation procedure or incident in consultation with Quality Manager if required
- Complete swabs and dry-cleaning approval
- Support with sampling of incoming ingredients for testing
- Shall collect and organize the daily production and HACCP related reports
- Shall perform daily GMP inspection of the production and warehouse areas to ensure compliance with food safety and complete all necessary follow-up as required
- Ensure the daily calibration of all laboratory equipment and complete documentation as required
- Support production with timely resolution of all deviation, non-conformance corrections to ensure control is restored and non-conforming product detention or segregation is implemented per the specific deviation procedure
- Support production with metal detection issue resolution if required
- Ensure Good Laboratory Practice is always maintained
- Ensure collection of finished samples for testing as required and complete all the necessary documentation
- Post-secondary Degree/Diploma in a related field, or a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, microbiology or Chemistry would be an asset
- 1-3 years of experience in quality assurance or food safety, ideally in a food manufacturing or blending environment
- Strong understanding of HACCP, GMPs and food safety standards
- Familiarity with SQF, BRC or other food safety certifications
- Knowledge of quality systems, sampling procedures and lab testing protocols
- Experience with lot traceability, COAs and non-conformance reports.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships by developing, maintaining and strengthening partnerships with internal stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills both written & verbal
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong computer skills with proficiency with MS Office, ERP or inventory systems.
- Teamwork orientation and flexibility in a high-performance culture.
- Ability to make decisions in a timely manner and resolve conflicts
- Knowledgeable and familiarity with such as but not limited to BRC 8, OHSA, WSIA, ESA, CSA, Ontario Fire Code and HRA.
- Ability to stand for long periods, lift 25–50 pounds and work in production areas (sometimes cold/hot or dusty).
- Must follow all safety and hygiene procedures, including PPE use.
- This role is fully on site in Oakville, Ontario.
