JOB TYPE: Full-Time, on-site at our corporate office
HOURS: 44 hours/week, Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
ABOUT THE ROLE:
Are you passionate about film, media, and storytelling? Do you thrive in a creative, fast-paced environment where no two days are the same? Tourism Kingston is seeking a dynamic Film and Media Specialist to elevate Kingston’s reputation as a film-friendly city and a hub for screen-based production.
You’ll collaborate closely with producers, location scouts, and local partners to bring stories to life in our historic and vibrant city.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports Film Commissioner: Assist the Film Commissioner with various tasks and projects.
- Finance: Submit invoices, request sale invoices and credit card statements, and ensure spend is within the approved operating budget.
- Admin: Maintain the digital library and manage the film permitting process.
- Communications: Foster connections with local businesses, property owners, municipal partners, and represent Tourism Kingston at industry events, festivals, and trade shows. Oversee content for internal and external communications, including social media and newsletters.
- Internal Reporting/Newsletters: Maintain relationships within the community, agencies, production companies, creative partners, and community residents. Provide updates and oversee content for newsletters.
- Stakeholder and Community Engagement: Foster connections with local businesses, property owners, municipal partners, and community residents. Represent Tourism Kingston at industry events, festivals, and trade shows.
- Sales Cycle: Organize scout tours and logistics to assist in closing the sales cycle. Create photo packages and review industry trends and survey research.
- Production: Support production tasks, including scouting, digital, animation, and Esports projects. Manage city communications for production notices and communications for residents.
- Location and Database: Manage Reel-Scout, secure locations with a focus on end-to-end productions, and scan local and regional locations. Create a communications plan to incentivize and increase production numbers.
- Workforce Development: Coordinate, schedule, and implement workshops, makers meetups, and cinema society events.

- Organized & Detail-Oriented: You are comfortable juggling multiple projects and maintaining a high level of organization.
- Scouting Mind: You are capable of script review and location scouting.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary education in film, media, communications, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in film/media, destination marketing, or economic development.
- Must be based in Kingston.
- Familiarity with film production processes and industry best practices. Experience on set is highly preferred.
- Excellent communication and advanced project management skills.
- Comfortable working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- A valid driver’s license is required, and access to a vehicle is preferred.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of Kingston’s geography and creative community.
- Experience with RealScout.
- Bilingualism in English and French.

WORK HOURS & EXPECTATIONS:
Tourism Kingston’s regular office hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, but this role requires flexibility. You’ll occasionally work evenings and weekends for events, client meetings, or industry functions. When productions are in town, you’ll be working longer hours and may be required to be on call or on set. Must be based in Kingston.
