Position Summary
The primary responsibility of the Lead Machinist (2nd Shift) is to set up and operate production machines, primarily CNC vertical lathes (15” chuck, 24” chuck, 72” chuck). The role involves machining materials to drawing specifications, reading and interpreting drawings and specifications, including Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), as required. Additionally, the position requires performing in-process inspections where necessary.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with CNC machining and a strong ability to lead and mentor a team of machinists. This role is critical to ensuring the precision and quality of our manufactured components. This role will be on the 2nd shift.

Duties And Responsibilities
- Operate and oversee CNC machines to produce high-quality parts according to specifications.
- Lead and supervise a team of machinists, providing guidance and training as needed.
- Ensure all machining operations comply with safety standards and company policies.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on CNC machines.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize machining processes.
- Study sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Measures, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
- Select, align, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills and lathes.
- Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
- Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust machine controls.
- Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
- Develop specifications from general description and draws sketches of part or product to be fabricated.
- Inspect finished products for accuracy and quality, making adjustments as necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of production and maintenance activities.
- Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications.
- Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a machining environment.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with CNC machines (Mills & Lathes).
- Proficient in the use of quality control measuring devices (micrometers, gauges, indicators, scales calipers, etc.).
- Ability to read and edit machine programs and comprehend GD&T.
- Manual machining experience.
- Lead hand/team lead experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position is considered SHOP/INDOOR WORK which is characterized as follows:
- Primarily indoors during the day and occasionally at night.
- Frequently working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment.
- When outdoors, humidity is frequently above 90%.
- Noise is over 85 decibels.
- Light is intense/glare.
- Occasional exposure to open fire/flames/sparks.
- Frequent exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases.
