About This Career Opportunity

We are seeking a hands-on, technically proficient Facilities Team Lead to oversee and actively contribute to both facility operations and manufacturing equipment maintenance in the Hamilton area. This dynamic role requires a strong mechanical and electrical systems foundation and proven leadership experience in GMP-regulated environments. The ideal candidate will provide day-to-day technical support while guiding a multidisciplinary team, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, optimizing equipment performance, and maintaining a safe, efficient, and audit-ready facility.

General duties & responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Supervision 30%

  • Lead and supervise day-to-day operations of the facilities and maintenance teams, ensuring alignment with GMP standards, documentation and operational goals
  • Mentor and coach team members, promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Exhibit a mature and cooperative attitude to promote an atmosphere of sensitivity, good communication and teamwork both within the department, with other departments, and with contractors
  • Effective support to the Director of Facilities as needed

Technical / Hands-on 70%

  • Maintain all manufacturing equipment, perform repairs, and support daily maintenance processes
  • Execute Preventative, Corrective, and Emergency Maintenance work orders by following internal SOPs and procedures while adhering to GMP and safety requirements.
  • Support troubleshooting, maintenance, and reliability activities where required.
  • Monitor and maintain HVAC, mechanical, and electrical systems for optimal performance and energy efficiency
  • Coordinate and perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and calibration schedules for critical systems and production assets
  • Monitor and optimize BAS systems and ensure proper functioning of utilities such as RO water systems, steam boilers, air compressors, and pumps
  • Conduct daily walkthroughs to identify and resolve operational or compliance-related issues proactively
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external contractors to plan and oversee maintenance activities, equipment installations, and facility upgrades
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, calibration records, inspections, and compliance logs in accordance with GMP and SOP requirements
  • Support internal and external audits by ensuring documentation and physical systems are audit-ready
  • Respond to urgent maintenance requests and participate in a rotating on-call schedule for after-hours emergencies
  • Ensure all work areas, mechanical rooms, and service spaces are clean, organized, and compliant with safety regulations
  • Stay current with applicable codes and regulations, including TSSA, ESA, Ontario Building Code, and Fire Code
  • Contribute to special projects such as equipment upgrades, facility modifications, and process improvements
  • This is a full-time, on-site position, Monday to Friday during regular day shift hours
  • Other duties as assigned

Education Requirements

  • Certified Electrician or Millwright preferred(Red Seal preferred)
  • Technical diploma in mechanical, HVAC, or a related technical field
  • Hands-on experience in processing & facilities maintenance within a GMP-regulated environment, such as a pharmaceutical or food manufacturing plant, is an asset

Work Experience Requirements

  • Strong understanding of GMP standards and compliance as they relate to both manufacturing equipment maintenance and facility operations
  • Experience in building operations or manufacturing environments, including internal production and external contract manufacturing
  • Proven experience with HVAC systems, chillers, boilers, pumps, and electrical infrastructure
  • Proficient in the use of CMMS and Building Automation Systems (BAS) for scheduling, monitoring, and documentation
  • Solid knowledge of Ontario Building Code, Electrical Safety Authority (ESA), TSSA, and Fire Code regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, inspectors, and vendors
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to support and guide team members effectively
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Comfortable interpreting technical specifications, schematics, and equipment manuals
  • Highly organized and capable of working independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced, compliance-driven environment

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other standard business applications
  • Physically able to lift to 50 lbs and perform hands-on maintenance tasks

  • Capable of lifting to 50 lbs. and operating powered maintenance equipment (e.g., scissor lift, pump truck)
  • Flexible and adaptable to shifting priorities and operational demands
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate customer needs and implement proactive solutions
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between sites as required
  • Must be able to pass a police reference check
