Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Tunnel Engineer to join the Hatch Infrastructure in our Tunnels Practice in the Greater Toronto Area location.

As The Successful Candidate, You Will

  • Provide evaluation, analysis and interpretation of site geology, site investigation and laboratory programs in developing design basis
  • Soil and Rock classifications for tunnels, geo-structures and underground structures
  • Develop designs from inception, feasibility, conceptual, preliminary and detail phases for Transit and water tunnels as well as for micro-tunnels prefered
  • Mapping and recording ground conditions during construction
  • Writing technical memos, reports, work plans, and scope changes
  • Assist with proposals and developing work plans
  • Technical data processing analysis
  • Analytical design calculations
  • Numerical modelling
  • Prepare project design calculations, drawings and specifications
  • Assist Senior Project Engineers
  • Independently responsible for a variety of engineering assignments
  • Proficient in complex engineering applications, such as research, design and product application
  • Work independently and within a team environment and provide guidance to junior engineers.
  • Provide specialized expertise in the area of tunnel construction methods, specification and troubleshooting

You Bring To The Role

  • Bachelor of Applied Science or Engineering with a Master’s Degree is preferred
  • PhD degree or advanced studies in tunnelling or computation geomechanics is high asset
  • Professional Engineering license in Ontario and other province/states
  • 10 – 15 years of design experience in heavy civil, underground infrastructure projects in water, wastewater, transit and energy sector
  • Experience in trenchless tunnels ideal
  • Familiarity with different types of excavation methodologies
  • Sound knowledge of civil engineering fundamentals, soil and rock mechanics and structural engineering
  • Strong scope, time and budget management skills
  • Strong multi-tasking and team collaboration skills
  • Strong computer skills working with design and modelling software, AutoCAD Group software, FLAC 2D/3D, S2, RS3, Plaxis, and MS Office
  • Travel to sites will be involved
