The Director, Expense Forecasting & Analysis is part of the GBM Financial Planning & Analysis (GBM FP&A) team responsible for providing oversight and leadership relative to GBM expense management and controls. The position has a business partner role and elevates the analytical output to deliver value added analysis and insights to internal clients as well as to support All Bank processes such as annual planning, monthly forecasting, quarter and month end reporting, etc.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Financial Forecasting and Planning – Oversees the process of consolidation of the expense component of the annual plan and monthly forecast across GBM’s business lines and regions, highlighting key risks and opportunities for cost control. Supports the Enterprise-Wide Stress Testing (EWST) process for internal and OSFI purposes
  • Financial Reporting – Consolidates expense reporting and analysis to support external and internal reporting deliverables related to the month-end and quarter-end processes including Bluebook, GBM monthly reporting, monthly/quarterly management report, etc. Develops and maintains reports and key expense metrics to provide analytical guidance on the expense reporting framework including productivity savings, controllable expenses and other expense reduction opportunities. Supports the preparation of staffing reports on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Strategic Partner to Business Lines, Regional Finance Teams & EO – Acts as a liaison with GBM’s business lines, regional finance teams, and EO / Corporate Functions Finance teams in all expense related matters by providing granular expense analysis and transparency. Supports proactive communication and demonstrates strong influencing capability across the expense management community to drive more consistent and collaborative practices and increased transparency.
  • Expense Controls & Process – Participates in the development and communication of expense-related policies, guidelines and standards for GBM. Explores ways to optimize financial cycles, reduces manual effort and turnaround time. Manages and coordinates staffing requests with GBM HR.
  • Team Environment – Contributes to an environment in which the team works together to produce tailored and value-added strategic analysis while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls.

Skills

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Graduate degree in Finance, Economics or Business Administration, or Chartered Financial Analyst designation, Chartered Professional Accountant designation, or comparable experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of GBM business line and/or Finance experience.
  • Highly developed understanding of GBM’s business lines, financial reporting process, compliance policies, performance measurement, planning and analysis, service standards, and legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent analytical skills including financial modelling and Microsoft Office products.
  • Advanced presentation and communication skills and proven ability to provide insightful and influential analysis to Executive Management.
  • An expert ability to balance competing or conflicting goals of various departments/stakeholders, requiring a mature, diplomatic approach and highly developed negotiation and influencing skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to work in a team environment under tight deadlines, in some cases on special projects requiring innovative analysis and solutions.
