Some of what you will do:

This role will drive analytical leadership within the company and enable data-based decision making to help Staples Canada become a leading data-driven organization. The individual will lead the Reporting & Insights practice for Stores & Services as part of the Enterprise Analytics & Data Science team. Our multi-tenant cloud platforms power our analytics and ML/AI capabilities and we’re looking for an active hands-on contributor to play a central role in helping our teams understand performance and impact of their strategies. Additionally, the role will be continuously challenged to bring forward valuable insights to help their partners make better and more informed decisions.

We’re on a transformation journey and this role will be a key enabler in accelerating our analytics practice. In addition to having direct ownership over Stores & Services, this role will work closely with various cross-functional partners and have the opportunity to build deep insights across the customer journey – extending to marketing, supply chain, and our B2B functions.

This position represents an ideal role for a highly motivated and highly analytical individual. We are a highly collaborative, agile work environment, so the ideal candidate would demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and excellent technical depth. The successful candidate will be passionate about data and have a strong foundation in analytics, understanding business needs, and storytelling.

Specifically, You Will

  • Establish the company as the leader in leveraging and executing on a customer first data-driven strategy.
  • Own and develop the vision, strategy, and execution for a best-in-class customer intelligence and analytics function, ensuring scalability of systems, governance, tools, capabilities, processes, and talent.
  • Work with other functions within Analytics and Engineering to curate and source together transactional/behavioural/operational data (in-store, online, third-party) into views that can easily be leveraged and trusted for decision making, connecting back to our customer, their journeys and business priorities.
  • Develop suite of reporting tools, with a self-serve enablement focus, that define business impact and project success, while also providing deep insights on integrated data sets to evaluate short term and long-term ROI.
  • Drive both strategic and tactical execution to unlock the value of data across internal and external data sets and generate critical actionable insights to drive the decision-making process.
  • Execute on the roadmap and deliver reporting & impactful insights to core partners across Retail Operations and Services (online and stores).
  • Oversee performance and operational reporting, ad-hoc analysis, and project ROI determination for core stakeholder groups, including manage ongoing reporting and business scorecards for corporate and field teams.
  • Determine business needs and the right KPIs for new projects/enhancements and deliver a crisp narrative on its outcome post-launch.

Some Of What You Need

  • BS / BA, preferably in Mathematics or Computer sciences or any other quantitative discipline
  • Ability to manage large datasets and being open and eager to use new tools; experience with Looker, PowerBI, or any Business Intelligence tools.
  • Expert in SQL.
  • Proficiency with statistical tools such as SAS or R an asset.
  • Understanding of the Google Cloud Platform or other cloud-based data platforms.
  • 5-7 years in a highly analytical, results-driven environment.
  • 3+ years of experience specifically in retail data management and analytics.
  • Demonstrated retail experience working with stores & online datasets.
