The Ultra manufacturing function is responsible for the manufacture, integration and test of a wide range of products and systems providing innovative capabilities for our customers.

The VDS Team Lead is responsible for the safe, high quality and efficient manufacturing VDS/Towed Array products at the Dartmouth facility.

This hands-on role includes accountability for the implementation of the manufacturing vision and supervision of the VDS production team Nationality Requirements Candidates must be eligible to obtain the relevant security clearance required for the role, due to the nature of the programmes we deliver for our customers Job Description Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct supervision of assemblers, techs and charge hands in order to deliver on-time, high quality products
  • Facilitate the timely resolution of technical production issues
  • Provide input to design teams to ensure effective concurrent engineering practices
  • Monitor and maintain reporting on key KPI to the Production Manager.
  • Lead daily stand-ups in work centers with key support functions and production operators.
  • Provide feedback to Manufacturing Engineering and Design Engineering as to effective manufacturing of prototypes and products, leading to efficient methods and development of production aids.
  • Practice continuous improvement and change management methodologies such as LEAN and Prosci
  • Responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering operator training providing effective coverage and rotation of duties.
  • Implement and monitor safe work practices in production.
  • Interface with customers as required. (Document review / Technical questions etc.)
  • Responsible for maintaining the safety and cleanliness of the shop floor using 5S practices.
  • Provide daily updates on performance, downtime and quality issues or concerns.
  • Lead accident and near miss investigations. Presents opportunities for ergonomic and other safety related improvements.
  • Perform employee evaluations and assessments for production operators, providing performance feedback and coaching as well as aiding in providing developmental opportunities.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Clear understanding and experience of manufacturing complex products and processes
  • Track record of effective project and people management
  • 5+ years of experience of the hands-on production management within a complex technology business
  • Highschool diploma required, post-secondary education in a related field considered an asset
  • Experience leading teams in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to achieve Security Clearance to NATO secret level and meet requirements of Controlled Goods.
  • Flexibility to work flexible hours to support the business, as required.
