RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Technical Platform Manager - Centre for Innovative Medicine (CIM), and following established governmental guidelines and regulations, the incumbent is responsible for administering and adjusting treatments and medications to research patient, overseeing the day-to-day activities of the CIM Infusion nurses, following policies and procedures, and using a holistic approach to patient care.

The Centre for Innovative Medicine is located in the new Glen site hospital, which is a unique center in Canada of 5000 m2 dedicated exclusively to clinical research.

General Duties

  • Onboard new personnel and is involved in their training, and collaborates in research projects;
  • Assigns Infusion Nurses patients to be treated and maintain a balanced nurse/patient ratio;
  • Generates key performance index on CIM Infusion room activities;
  • Support the administrative agent in scheduling patients based on infusion room capacity, staff availability, and the complexity of the

treatment;

  • Acts as a resource person to assist in the care of the research patient requiring complex care;
  • Administers chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments to oncology research patients or other disease patients;
  • Infuses blood products when necessary;
  • Evaluates the health status of research patients;
  • Determines if research patient can continue their treatments;
  • Works closely with the interdisciplinary team to ensure proper care and oversight to the research patient and their families in clinical

research trials;

  • Provides appropriate resources to patients;
  • Ensures proper research documentation;
  • Reviews and documents protocol trainings;
  • Any other tasks as assigned by the manager.

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing in nursing is required;
  • Good standing member of the OIIQ;
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in medical/surgical, ICU or Emergency Room;
  • Experience in Oncology (hematology and/or solid tumors) administration of cancer treatments is

preferred;

  • Clinical research experience is preferred;
  • Experience in multicenter project management is an asset;
  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Health Canada Division 5 certifications an asset;
  • Bilingual: French and English spoken and written;
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills;
  • Able to work under minimal supervision;
  • Self-directed, flexible, organized with a good sense of work ethics.

Additional information

Status: Full Time

Pay Scale: Commensurate with qualifications and experience, $62,389.60 - $115,824.80.

Work Shift: 35 hours/ week between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday to Friday, and opportunity to add hours sporadically in the evening or on weekends.

Work Site: Centre for Innovative Medicine, MUHC Glen Site.
