Wood is recruiting for a Department Manager, Mechanical and Piping to join its Canadian business focusing on projects across the BioProducts sector. This opportunity is hybrid.

The Role

Wood is currently seeking a highly motivated Department Manager, Mechanical and Piping to join our team, preferably based in Vancouver, Canada. Other locations could be Grande Prairie and Calgary. The Department Manager has overall responsibility for building and developing the mechanical (including materials handling and HVAC/building services) and piping engineering and design team, managing our library of technical standards and procedures, and the continued migration of our engineering platforms to full data-centric delivery.

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the MP engineering and design team
  • Oversee project delivery for MP to meet budget, schedule, and quality targets
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and quality systems
  • Coordinate with other departments and project managers for efficient execution and utilization of staff
  • Coordinate and lead work with distributed teams and work-share offices
  • Monitor team performance and forecast resource needs
  • Identify staffing requirements and lead the process to recruit new staff
  • Participate in the BioProducts leadership team to help identify and secure new project opportunities
  • Support training, and professional development
  • Prepare and/or review and approve technical deliverables, engineering and capital cost estimates and proposals
  • Stay current with industry standards and tools, and implement improvements
  • Promote a safety culture

Expected

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Registered or eligible for P.Eng. in British Columbia and/or other provinces (PE in the U.S. is an asset)
  • At least 10-15 years of relevant technical experience in analysis, design, specification and procurement of industrial process plant equipment and piping
  • Strong knowledge of industry practices and mechanical and piping codes and standards
  • Experience in software used for process plant engineering, including:
    • Design and drafting software (both 2D & 3D)
    • Piping stress analysis
    • Static equipment (e.g. tank and vessel) design
    • Hydraulic and compressible flow analysis
  • Experience with tender documents and engineering deliverables
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
