MAJOR DUTIES
As a Controls Specialist in the Applications Engineering team at ATS, you are responsible for the conceptualization, costing, and technical definition of automation solutions with a focus on controls architecture. You play a critical role in the Proposal Development Team (PDT), collaborating with internal stakeholders and external vendors to deliver robust, cost-effective, and innovative automation concepts that align with customer requirements and ATS standards.

You play a critical role in the Proposal Development Team (PDT), collaborating with internal stakeholders and external vendors to deliver robust, cost-effective, and innovative automation concepts that align with customer requirements and ATS standards.

- Controls hardware material breakdowns
- Engineering labor estimates
- Illuminate licensing and hardware costs
- Digital Twin labor projections
- Proposal Support:
- Customer Engagement:
- Vendor Coordination:
- Technical Leadership:
- Compliance & Safety:
Education & Qualifications
- A post-secondary diploma or degree in mechanical design, engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum of five years’ experience in mechanical design engineering with working knowledge of electrical design, in an automation environment
- Strong knowledge of electrical devices (e.g., switches, load cells, LVDTs)
- Proficiency in PLC programming and control system design
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Profinet, EtherNet/IP)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments
- CMSE certification or equivalent is an asset
