Job Summary & Requirements
The Hudson Regional Cancer Program is one of fourteen in the province of Ontario. Reporting to the Manager, Outpatient Oncology, the Drug Reimbursement Specialist evaluates, facilitates and coordinates access to medication assistance for oncology outpatients. This coordination will occur in consultation with the Systemic Therapy Program Team including Medical Oncologists, Pharmacists, Pharmacy technicians, Nurses and Social Workers. An essential component of the role will be to collaborate with government, community based and private agencies that provide financial assistance for medication and to serve as an advisor to patients, families and healthcare providers regarding medication access to facilitate the process of treatment with each individual either within the centre or within their local community. The Specialist provides a centralized resource within the Regional Cancer Centre to coordinate the submission of Section 8 applications, by securing funds from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, and/or Private Insurance Companies and Third-Party insurance providers, Compassionate use, as well as “special access”.

As a qualified candidate you will need have the following job requirements:
- Secondary School Diploma or Equivalent
- Health or Social Sciences diploma required
- Health or Social Sciences degree preferred
- Regulated Health Professional preferred
- Minimum 1-2 years of relevant clinical experience in Health Sciences, preferably in Oncology
- Knowledge of computer software programs including MS Office – Word, Excel, Power Point; Database Knowledge (e.g. Outlook)
- Knowledge of Cancer Care Ontario New Drug Funding Program guidelines, policies & procedures an asset
- Knowledge of the Ontario Drug Benefit Formulary an asset
- General Knowledge of the Pharmaceutical Industry an asset
- Ability to develop and compile statistical reporting in order to maintain a monthly log of patients requiring reimbursement assistance and the success rates with ODB and private insurance companies
- Advances organizational skills to prioritize duties
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to exercise discretion, tact and confidentiality
