Job Description
The Financial Analyst will be part of the wider Financial Planning and Analysis team working closely alongside the accounting team, both of these teams sit within the Finance department of Seaspan Marine Group.
The Financial Analyst will work closely with the Senior Manager, Finance Business Partner and FP&A team on monthly and quarterly initiatives, collaboratively working with operations, business development personnel and other key stakeholders. The Financial Analyst will assist the Senior Finance Business Partner with managing and coordinating the annual budget, monthly forecasting, and collaborative project review processes.
The Financial Analyst will assist in developing financial models to support the organization through development of revenue forecasting, pricing, and costing; reviewing these models with direct manager, this includes performing back-tests of forecasts and models to actual results and assisting in incorporating the results of analysis into broader strategic business plans.
In addition, the Financial Analyst assists in navigating the implementation of an Enterprise Resourcing Planning (“ERP”) system; completing testing initiatives, documenting processes for future reference, and setting new reporting standards.
Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

What You’ll Do
- Assists in building financial models frameworks using historical and forecasted data to provide financial analysis on projects and purchases.
- Reviews key results and metrics each month to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Builds budget and forecast modeling tools and templates to assist with annual budgeting upload process.
- Identifies business trends in the business utilizing real data and variance analysis, compile analysis reports, follow-up on results.
- Collects and summarize profitability of customer contracts and business departments presenting to the Senior Finance Business Partner.
- Assists with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting tasks for the Seaspan Marine Transportation businesses such as loading template data into the accounting and reporting system and preparation of executive summary materials.
- Collects and summarize real-time reporting of key operational metric, to be defined by marine commercial and operations group.
- Assists and prepares process flow diagrams and detailed work documents mapping of accounting and financial systems.
- Continued improvement of processes to ensure efficiency and clarity of information being reported and summarized outside of the Financial Planning and Analysis team.
- Undergraduate degree in Business or Finance or related field of study is required.
- Recently qualified Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or working towards this designation within a reasonable time period (ie. 1 to 2 years).
- Minimum 5 years of work experience, with 1-2 years as a financial analyst.
- Keen interest in the maritime and transportation sector.
- Confident, energetic, bright collaborative team member.
- Strong work ethic and professional level commitment to career and skill development.
- Keen interest and curious mind for operations and business activity and the maritime industry.
- Strong and detailed analytical abilities.
- Advanced Excel skills with self-awareness of efficient and simple formulaic structures.
- Experience in financial modelling.
- Ability to self-manage and work to deadlines, to prioritize and effectively follow-through on tasks in a fast-paced changing environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with business leaders and concise data storytelling.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- This is a full-time, permanent position.
