Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist is accountable for administering and advising on CBA related issues as well as HR programs, policies, and procedures and for meeting the Plant’s staffing needs for hourly positions to support business priorities. The position provides guidance and advice to employees and responds to a variety of Human Resources related questions. This role will also carry out administrative work involving the human resources functions including WCB, STD, and health and safety paperwork.

Main Duties

  • Leads the recruitment and selection processes for hourly employees in accordance with company standards to ensure that plant hourly recruitment needs are met. Including posting the positions, screen applications, interviewing, reference checks, preparation of offer letters, and conducting hourly new hire Orientations;
  • Support the Manager, Human Resources by preparing and placing internal/external salary recruitment postings, screening resumes, setting up and conducting interviews, and reference checks;
  • Administers current HR policies, programs, and practices to ensure compliance with the policies and programs are met and consistent administration is enforced. Specifically, the attendance management program, vacation policy, disability management and leaves (STD, Maternity, LOA, etc) policies, including the completion of all related documentation;
  • Administers the Collective Agreement, including but not limited to ensuring that employee related issues are properly addressed and resolved. Leads investigation of issues; makes recommendations in the resolution of issues;
  • Participates in the grievance process, ensuring continuity and consistency with practices, policy and intent of the Collective Agreement and Sofina objectives;
  • Organize and attend Labour/Management Monthly meetings and distribution of minutes;
  • Organize company events;
  • Provides back-up coverage to Health and Safety when required, to conduct investigations, administer Return to Work (WCB) program, counsel, or coordinate the resolution of specific policy-related and procedural problems.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Certificate in Human Resource Management supplemented with relevant experience in Human Resources is required;
  • Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in related field;
  • Excellent knowledge and experience in HR functions.
  • Comfortable in dealing with ambiguity; promoting ideas, developing plans and execution;
  • Experience in Labour Relations; grievance management; interpretation of collective agreement;
  • Knowledge and understanding of recruitment and selection methodologies and practices, provincial employment and human rights legislation required;
  • Experience in full cycle recruitment in a unionized environment;
  • Knowledge of WCB and Health and Safety considered an asset;
  • Good communication, conflict resolution and analytical skills;
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

  • Hiring Range: $56,523.00 - $75,458.00

Please note that the hiring range provided is derived from a group of like roles within Sofina. The final offer amount for this role will be dependent on geographical region, applicable experience, skillset of the candidate and internal equity.
