Founded in 1906, MG&CC is a year-round private club that offers golf, curling, fitness and tennis, dining and social amenities. Our Tudor Clubhouse is a spectacular venue for casual and fine dining, banquets, weddings and various social events and functions.

Position Summary

The Mississaugua Golf and Country Club is seeking a passionate and active Fitness Floor Support & Personal Trainer to join our Fitness Centre Team. Under the supervision and direction of the Fitness Director. The Personal Trainer will perform his/her duties to give one on one guidance or fitness instructions to the member and help him/her to attain the set fitness goals by providing professional advice and exceptional service to members to help promote a healthy active lifestyle. In addition, the incumbent will work closely with other fitness professionals to ensure the facility is clean and safe in accordance with the Club’s Standards. This position must demonstrate strong communication skills, providing exceptional Member service while maintaining a professional demeanor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Works closely with the Fitness Manager to develop and deliver a variety of events and programs that will improve the participation and enjoyment of the members and further promote the fitness facilities
  • Understand the needs of the member and plan the workout routine by choosing the correct set of exercises for the member to ensure it will help the member attain their goals
  • Provide training to members using the equipment including all cardio and strength machines
  • Employ various ways to motivate the member to achieve the set fitness goals
  • Be punctual and ensure that the designed workout routine is followed properly
  • Design a rehabilitation program, through a health practitioners guidance, in case the member suffers from some injury
  • Provide fitness tips to the member to enhance the workout program
  • Provide educational wellness advice to members that will help improve the health of members
  • Perform regular checkups to ensure all equipment in the Fitness Center is performing at a satisfactory level
  • Evaluate the overall Fitness Center on an ongoing basis and recommend methods of improving the facilities in the center
  • Provide various training advice and assistant to ensure the member is given the best service possible
  • Carry out fitness assessment of members to determine various information including fitness goals, needs, plans, schedule, etc
  • Provide support to other Fitness professionals in the department when required to guarantee superior service is provided to members
  • Perform regular inspection to ensure that the fitness center provides a clean and safe environment for members, guests and staff
  • Reports any major damage of equipment or property to the Fitness Manager to determine what reactive action must be taken
  • Respond to emergency that may arise in the Fitness Department when required including providing information to emergency personnel or performing CPR
  • Perform any additional duties as specified by the Fitness Manager
  • Perform regular checkups to ensure all equipment in the fitness centre is performing at an acceptable level.
  • Actively supervise and monitor facility, while enforcing rules and regulations and encourage proper fitness centre etiquette.
  • Perform regular inspection to ensure that the fitness centre provides a clean and safe environment for members and guests.

Skills & Requirements

  • College Certificate in Fitness is required; degree in Kinesiology/Science preferred
  • Minimum two years experience in a Weight Room/Fitness center setting is required
  • Experience working with and teaching different age groups is an asset
  • Private Club fitness center experience is an asset
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required
  • Able to work shifts – evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Well groomed, mannerly, co-operative and outwardly friendly (team oriented)
  • Up to date First Aid/ CPR/ AED certification or willingness to obtain
  • Degree in Kinesiology/Science is an asset
  • Group Fitness Leader Certification is an asset
  • CPR and First Aid and Defib is required
  • Personal Training Certification is required
  • Incumbent responsible for maintaining Personal Liability Insurance and renew annually
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, bend, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, life, work with fingers, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions
  • Must be able to lift 20lbs and be able to move/push equipment as needed
  • Visual acuity required
  • Prolonged standing
  • Ability to think and process information quickly, clearly, and accurately
  • Strong reasoning ability; able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, written and oral instructions; able to deal calmly and logically with problems and people, even under pressure
