Responsibilities


The AI in Research Facilitator plays a pivotal role in advancing Western’s capacity for innovation in research development through the design, creation and implementation of AI-enabled tools. Working in partnership with Western Research and other key stakeholders, the Facilitator will support the development, evaluation, and refinement of intelligent systems that support grant, publication, award and scholarship writing, ethics reviews, and local and international collaboration opportunities. This includes spearheading iterative pilot projects such as the Automated Grant Feedback (AGF) tool and its derivatives, as well as conducting feasibility assessments for emerging applications. By combining technical acuity with a deep understanding of the research lifecycle, the AI in Research Facilitator will help unlock new efficiencies, strengthen faculty support, and ensure Western remains a leader in digital research infrastructure and strategy.

Qualifications


Education:

  • 4 year Undergraduate Degree in a relevant area of study
  • Courses related to Artificial Intelligence
  • Graduate degree or equivalent professional designation in a relevant area of study is preferred

Experience:

  • 2 years’ experience working in research administration
  • Experience working with Artificial Intelligence applications for research administration purposes

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of research administration and knowledge related to the ethical and strategic use of AI in academic settings
  • Understanding of systemic bias and its impacts in technology
  • Understanding of Indigenous data sovereignty and its impact on technology and AI systems
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to collaborate in support of institutional innovation
  • Ability to navigate complex research administration systems, guidelines, and policy frameworks
  • Proven ability to build both formal and informal professional relationships within, across, and external to organizational boundaries
  • Ability to assess situations using sound judgement and navigate sensitive topics
  • Proven ability to track performance measures and create summary reports to support decision-making
  • Ability to work independently, handle details with a high degree of accuracy and to organize and prioritize a high volume of work to meet deadlines
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and effectively communicate University guidelines, policies and practices to key stakeholders
  • A desire to grow and advance skills, which is demonstrated by attending webinars, workshops and other professional developmental opportunities to enhance performance
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
