Golden Horseshoe Metering Systems (GHMS) provides comprehensive metering services to utility customers looking to provide individual suite metering for multi-dwelling retrofit and new construction projects. We are experienced in providing sales, design, installation and implementation of electricity, water, thermal, and gas metering solutions.

This role is responsible for performing accredited inspections. Successful candidates will be experienced with inspecting and commissioning electrical, water, and thermal meters to ensure compliance with quality control and assurance standards, reporting findings, and providing actionable recommendations. Additionally, the Senior Field Technician offers guidance and training to junior technicians, supporting them in resolving complex metering and communication challenges.

Additionally, the Senior Field Technician offers guidance and training to junior technicians, supporting them in resolving complex metering and communication challenges.
Duties Include
- Work in compliance with all health and safety and environmental legislation including, but not limited to, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and company policies and procedures.
- Conducts Visual inspections and testing of electrical installations, single and three-phase meters, multi-customer meters, metering equipment and metering systems following Measurement Canada approved Quality Assurance procedures and Golden Horseshoe Metering Systems procedures and Oakville Hydro Energy Services procedures (e.g. S-E-04 Test Procedures)
- Conducts visual inspections and commissioning of water and thermal metering systems in multi residential new construction or retrofit buildings.
- Identifies and resolves issues related to metering equipment (advanced troubleshooting) and electrical installations.
- Identifies and resolves meter system communication issues.
- Programs and setup data collectors for new and existing sites
- Ensures that the tools, materials, and protective equipment provided by the Company are maintained in good condition.
- Analyzes and interprets phase diagnostics information to identify metering installation-related problems.
- Analyzes, evaluates, and compares customers’ records (e.g. Installation records, drawings, floor plans and billing records) against what is observed on job sites.
- Responsible for collecting data, site, and installation information prior to S-E-04 Inspections (e.g. Pre-inspections)
- Responsible for the integrity and accuracy of the data and files (file management). Submit/upload files and pictures in a timely manner.
- Provide as needed support with testing, calibration, programming, and inspection certificate creation of residential and commercial meters in Oakville Hydro Energy Services meter testing facility.
- Participate as a QAI in Measurement Canada product and surveillance audits.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Post-secondary diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technician or related disciple and or equivalent work experience
- Minimum 3-5 years relevant field experience with electrical and/or mechanical systems or equivalent experience. Familiarity with LAN/WAN network is an asset
- Valid Class ‘G’ Ontario Driver’s Licence with an excellent driving record – travel is required throughout Southern Ontario
- Ability to lift up to 30kg (various metering equipment and electrical panels)
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to work in confined spaces (i.e. electrical closets) and work in high rise buildings, including those still under construction
- Demonstrate a high degree of technical competence and troubleshooting skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs including Word and Excel
- Highly organized with a high degree of attention to detail
- Demonstrates flexibility and projects a positive/professional demeanor
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication (written, verbal and presentation) skills, along with strong relationship building skills
- Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities; ability to foresee problems and take proactive action
