CBRE is seeking a Tourism Research Consultant in our Downtown Toronto office to support the CBRE Development Strategy & Consulting - Destination & Tourism team, within the Valuation & Advisory Services (VAS) department. This is an exciting role to make a difference in the Canadian tourism landscape, involving research, analysis, and strategic thinking for a boutique practice within a Fortune 500 company.

The Opportunity


CBRE is seeking an individual to form an integral component of the Downtown (office) Destination & Tourism team in the Development Strategy & Consulting department, to participate in all aspects of the practice. The Tourism Research Consultant will report directly to the Senior Vice President, Destination & Tourism, and provide support on all team projects.

The candidate will be expected to conduct research and analysis for use in advisory projects, develop written content for reports and proposals, and support project work in general with a lens towards data-driven solutions and strategies for destinations across Canada.

Responsibilities


  • Conduct extensive research and analysis, using both internal and third-party sources, with respect to relevant tourism and hospitality market analysis trends, and incorporate research findings into written advisory reports.
  • Prepare data-driven reports and articles for publication, with analytical guidance of the Senior Vice President.
  • Conduct market and financial feasibility modelling (with an understanding of profit & loss statements and forecasting).
  • Undertake various forms of stakeholder engagement for project work (interviews, survey creation & analysis, host focus groups, etc.).
  • Help maintain capacity for the Destination & Tourism team by assisting trainees and interns with various learning initiatives.
  • Create and analyze market statistics and corresponding materials, including the production of client presentations and reports.
  • Complete other research and administrative requests, at the direction of senior management.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university, preferably from a recognized tourism and/or hospitality program, and a minimum of three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of financial and tourism/hospitality terminology and principles, ability to understand financial statements and conduct basic financial analysis.
  • Will work towards developing the ability to prepare reasonable and defensible forecasts of income and expenses.
  • Ability to manipulate large amounts of data.
  • Strong proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications – notably Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Basic programing skills would be an asset.
  • Intermediate proficiency with stakeholder engagement and client presentations, and few concerns with public speaking
  • Ability to travel for client projects (if required)
  • Valid class 5 drivers’ license would be an asset.
