PROFILE

At Gowling WLG, we offer our construction clients one-stop advice from project conception to completion. Representing major contractors and leading developers, we enjoy strong and longstanding relationships with some of the sector's most significant players. Our strong client base also includes employers, funds, and end-users. We are looking for a Legal Administrative Assistant with experience in litigation to join our construction litigation team. The successful candidate brings excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and an interest in developing or furthering a practice in construction law.

This is a maternity leave coverage position ending in August 2026.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare legal documents, letters, memos and other documents as required according to general precedents and instructions from our legal professional;
  • Administer registrations of builders’ liens, personal property registrations, and filing of Court documents;
  • Organize and expedite the flow of work through the professional’s practice, initiating any follow-up action as appropriate;
  • Work proactively in the day-to-day support of the professional’s practice including management of diary systems and databases to ensure important deadlines are met;
  • Use initiative and good judgement to relieve the professional of administrative detail including but not limited to accounting, opening and closing of files, and billing;
  • Coordinate flow of documents between legal professionals, various internal and external individuals and clients at all levels;
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in litigation is required;
  • Legal Administrative Assistant Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution is required;
  • Experience with e-discovery platforms, the Land Titles Office, and builders’ lien registrations are an asset;
  • Demonstrated experience in construction law is an asset;
  • Ability to handle a heavy and varied workload;
  • Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills;
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong problem solving skills, including the ability to set priorities while dealing with conflicting and emerging priorities;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with other staff and professionals.
