Western University’s Faculty of Social Science is a leader in academic research and education, fostering innovative thinking and empowering students to tackle global challenges. The Communications team collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to share impactful stories, promote achievements, and connect with a diverse audience through various platforms.

Responsibilities


The Communications Assistant provides dynamic and detail-oriented support to the Faculty of Social Science’s Communications team. The incumbent will play a key role in crafting engaging content, managing social media channels and web updates, and assisting with promotional campaigns that highlight academic and student achievements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create, edit, and publish engaging content for social media, newsletters, and the Faculty’s website
  • Assist in developing strategies to amplify stories about student success, faculty research, and departmental highlights
  • Monitor and analyze social media performance, preparing reports to guide content strategy
  • Support event promotion by creating marketing materials and coordinating communications efforts
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure consistent branding and messaging across all channels
  • Respond to inquiries and engage with the community through social media platforms
  • Update our website daily (news, stories and events)

Education:

  • Must be a student returning to studies in the fall

Experience:

  • Previous work experience in a similar role or within the department

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with attention to detail
  • Proficiency in social media platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter) and content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
  • Strong communication skills with careful attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work in a manner that is compliant with confidentiality requirements
  • Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with a genuine customer service orientation
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
  • Ability to create a positive impression while interacting with others and responding to inquiries, by
  • telephone, in person or electronically
  • Availability to work on-site at Western University
