Position Overview

Reporting to the Surface Operations Superintendent, the Production Engineer role will harness the power of data to drive innovation, efficiency, and sustainability in mining operations. By leveraging advanced analytics and reporting capabilities, this professional contributes to optimizing processes, mitigating risks, and maximizing the value at Ekati Mine. With options to fly out of Yellowknife, NT or Calgary, AB, you will work a Monday to Thursday schedule at the Ekati Mine site.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day operations of the production dispatch team to meet production targets.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance and optimize production systems and processes, identifying inefficiencies and proposing improvements.
  • Assist in the integration and implementation of new data platforms to improve dispatch operations.
  • Learn, manage, and continuously improve existing production data platforms and software systems.
  • Work closely with Mine Technical Services (MTS), operations supervisors, and operators to ensure seamless communication and coordination of activities.
  • Gather and analyze production data to support decision-making, troubleshoot issues, and improve overall performance.
  • Ensure all processes are compliant with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mining, processing, and maintenance departments, to align production activities with overall mine objectives.
  • Develop technical documentation and provide training to staff on new processes or system changes.
  • Manage and maintain Wenco Software Suite to ensure effective utilization of software tools and availability of tools to end-users.
  • Report on monthly allocation of assets within the business using fleet management software data exports.

Education/Experience

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering
  • Designation as a Professional Engineer in the Northwest Territories (NAPEG) or working toward the ability to obtain this designation or relevant work experience.
  • 3 to 7 years of experience in one or combination of civil construction / material handling / mining operations, ideally including drilling, blasting, and hauling.
  • Strong proficiency in data analysis, with a solid understanding of production processes.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills, and experience using SQL or Python for data analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with various departments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or internships in production, dispatch, or mining operations.
  • Familiarity with production management systems and platforms (e.g., fleet management, dispatch software, or SCADA systems).
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations related to mining
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent problem-solving skills and an ability/willingness to ‘think outside the box”.
  • An aptitude to adapt to new technologies, data platforms, and software systems.
  • A proactive approach, with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Willingness to work in a remote and challenging environment in the Canadian Arctic.
