Position Overview

As a Mine Fleet Control Specialist for Surface Mining and our DPRT operations at Ekati, you will play a key role in assisting Supervision in providing a safe, efficient, and productive mining operation. At our state-of-the-art diamond mining operation in the Canadian Subarctic, you will utilize advanced dispatching technology, you will monitor and manage the movement of heavy equipment, optimize haul cycles, and support real-time decision-making to ensure safety, productivity, and operational excellence, while ensuring data integrity of both Surface Mining and DPRT operations is not compromised. The position will work a two-week on / two-week off rotation at the Ekati Mine Site.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Main point of contact for radio and phone communications.
  • Continuous monitoring of the mobile fleets to maintain data integrity, load destinations, and cycle times.
  • Ensuring mobile equipment is always in proper operating status and known locations. Responsible for monitoring key performance indicators and the reporting of those with respect to all operational efficiencies.
  • Identify all emergency situations and demonstrate the correct and appropriate action (i.e., activate a code one) to be taken in each situation when they arise.
  • Monitor, manage, and coordinate the movement of haul trucks, loaders, shovels, and other equipment using the Wenco system.
  • Maintain all aspects of the Wenco system, including updates to maps, data tables, and routes.
  • Maintain and update mine models within dispatch systems
  • Implement short interval control to ensure delivery of daily targets and facilitate root-cause analysis when targets are not achieved.
  • Track equipment performance and location to ensure efficient haul cycles, minimal downtime, and on-time material delivery to crushers, stockpiles, or waste dumps.
  • Ensure all equipment is in proper operating status.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with equipment operators, supervisors, mine planning, and maintenance teams.
  • Protect the company assets (including people, physical property, financial resources and information) within the span of control of the incumbent against loss, misuse and abuse.

Education/Experience

  • High School Graduation Diploma, post-secondary education in mining, engineering, or a related field is an asset.
  • Minimum three years progressive experience in mining operations, heavy equipment dispatch, or a similar role.
  • Related experience with Wenco or similar open pit dispatch system.
  • Strong proficiency in computer systems, GPS-based software, and data reporting tools.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with a keen ability to relate to a wide spectrum of individuals in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to complete reports using word processing and data entry skills.
  • Able to give clear instructions via the two-way radio and phone system.
  • Can make quick, coordinated decisions in a changing environment.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of the importance of efficient mining operations, and compliance to mine plan.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all stakeholders.
  • Willingness to work in a remote, arctic environment on a rotational schedule (i.e., fly-in, fly-out)
