We’re partnering with an established and community-focused organization in Calgary’s arts and culture scene to find a strategic and hands-on Senior Accountant/Controller. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys leading finance operations with confidence, while staying connected to the values and mission of a purpose-driven organization.

This role offers the chance to make a real impact — not just by managing numbers, but by helping the organization thrive through smart financial planning, accurate reporting, and effective systems.

What You’ll Be Doing

The Controller will lead all day-to-day finance operations, including budgeting, forecasting, payroll, and financial reporting. You’ll work closely with the senior leadership team to support strategic planning and ensure financial integrity across the organization.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing daily financial operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and month-end processes
  • Leading the budgeting and forecasting process, with input from key departments
  • Preparing timely and accurate financial reports for leadership and board review
  • Monitoring cash flow and ensuring compliance with applicable financial regulations and policies
  • Managing audit preparation, year-end reporting, and coordination with external auditors
  • Providing financial insight and analysis to support decision-making and long-term planning
  • Continuously improving financial systems, processes, and internal controls
  • Supporting grant tracking, reporting, and financial documentation for funders and stakeholders

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is not only technically skilled, but also aligned with a collaborative, community-first culture. You’re the kind of person who thrives in a leadership role but isn’t afraid to get into the details. You take ownership of your work, communicate clearly, and enjoy being part of a team working toward something meaningful.

You’ll stand out if you:

  • Have a strong foundation in accounting and financial management
  • Are comfortable working with nonprofit or arts sector financial models (or willing to learn)
  • Bring a solutions-focused approach to improving processes and solving problems
  • Are familiar with audit and compliance standards for nonprofit organizations
  • Understand how to work cross-functionally with other departments and support leadership with financial insights
  • Are highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple priorities
  • Are approachable, proactive, and value clear, thoughtful communication

Why This Role Matters

Your expertise will help ensure financial clarity, support creative programming, and provide the stability needed for the organization to deliver its mission. This is a key leadership role for someone who wants to use their financial skills for good — supporting the arts, the community, and a team that’s passionate about making a difference.
