Job Summary & Responsibilities
The position is designed for a forward-thinking, collaborative educator with a deep knowledge of Indigenous culture to support our Roots Program. This position includes site-based and off-site land-based experiential learning opportunities for students who are struggling to connect positively with self, culture, land, and school. The teacher will be responsible for collaborating with classroom teachers, school and district LSS, counsellors, administrators, and outside agencies to support students holistically for success and wellness.

The teacher will be responsible for collaborating with classroom teachers, school and district LSS, counsellors, administrators, and outside agencies to support students holistically for success and wellness.
Education & Experience
- Teacher training with major practicum work at the middle school level
- Experience and knowledge of Stó:lō culture, teachings, and protocols required
- Experience sharing cultural knowledge of First Nations, Méti,s and Inuit People required
- Experience working with Indigenous learners, their families, and in Indigenous communities is an asset
- Specific training in Indigenous Education – e.g., Major or Minor in Indigenous Studies
- Halq’emeylem and/or Michif Language preferred
- Experience and ability in teaching and supporting academic success
- Experience and skill supporting diverse learners is an asset
- Knowledge of enhancement agreement within the goals areas of the Indigenous Enhancement Agreement and the Local Education Agreement with Semá:th First Nation and Mathxwí First Nation
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Eligible for B.C. Certification
- Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or final practicum reports
- Demonstrated collaboration and willingness to attend district professional development in Indigenous education an asset
- Demonstrated awareness/understanding and experience with Indigenous culture
- Understanding of IEPs, designations, and experience supporting care team meetings
- Working knowledge of the district child abuse protocol and reporting procedures
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with all internal and external contacts, working collaboratively in a team environment at all times
- Ability to plan, organize, and take students on field trips
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable
- Ability to integrate technology and digital learning in the classroom
- Knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment
- Demonstrated ability to implement the curriculum with Indigenous content infused into all curricular areas

- Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs, feelings and capabilities of others in a tactful, compassionate and respectful manner.
- Organization & Planning: Ability to plan and organize for effective instruction, differentiation and assessment
- Classroom Management: Create and maintain an optimal learning environment for each student while managing student behavior and classroom dynamics.
- Facilitation & Engagement: Ability to capture and maintain students interest, effort, participation and enthusiasm for both the content and the process of learning
- Assessment & Coaching: Utilize balanced assessment and feedback to improve student learning including the use of formative and summative assessment strategies.
- Collaboration & Teamwork: Collaborate with others to achieve group goals and objectives
- Caring & Inclusiveness: Create and maintain an environment that is caring, inclusive and supportive of all students
- Flexibility & Adaptability: Demonstrate flexibility in the ability to adjust and adapt to changing circumstances
