The Edmonton Police Service is looking for a skilled, motivated and engaged lawyer with a strong legal background in civil, privacy, and/or administrative law who wants to make a positive impact on their community. The Edmonton Police Service can offer the right candidate an extremely interesting and varied work experience. The primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be to conduct civil, administrative, and other litigation and/or to act as instructing counsel on those matters. Depending on the experience of the chosen candidate and organizational needs, other duties of this position could also include:

  • Providing legal advice to all areas of the Edmonton Police Service on a broad variety of issues.
  • Teaching legal concepts to members of the Edmonton Police Service.
  • Participating in various aspects of the police disciplinary process including administrative appeals.
  • Assisting in the development of policy and training; and/or
  • General risk management.


The successful candidate must have a strong desire to learn, a keen interest in policing and criminal justice issues, integrity and the ability to thrive in a fast paced, dynamic and varied work environment.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of complex civil and/or administrative law experience.
  • The ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The desire and ability to work on diverse and challenging legal matters.
  • Extensive and varied litigation experience is an asset.


Hours of Work:

36.9 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of variable hours of work program.

Salary Range:

95M, Salary Grade: PS $93,036.00 - $202,607.56 (Annually).
