Position Description
Welcome to 7East!Our unit is a 40 bed inpatient surgical unit that provides care for General Surgery, Hepatobiliary, and Ophthalmology patients. Within the general surgical population, we see patients on our acute care service that are usually admitted through the emergency department. We also provide post-surgical care to those patients having breast or colon surgeries for a cancer related diagnosis or colorectal surgery/treatment for management of different etiologies of the GI tract. We do complex liver and pancreas surgeries and have the occasional ophthalmology patient who requires admission and support from the Eye Institute. Working on 7East will expose you to wound and ostomy care, as well as parental nutrition. You¿ll work closely with the NSWOC (Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence) team with the management of complex vacuum assist closure dressings. You¿ll also receive HPB education. Rotation/Shifts
Days and nights, including weekends, 12 hour shifts.

- Certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario;
- Recent acute surgical experience;
- Demonstrated theoretical knowledge of the nursing process as it relates to the general medicine/surgery patient and the ability to apply this knowledge in a clinical setting;
- Demonstrated the ability to assess the patient's learning needs and ability to plan appropriate teaching;
- Demonstrated ability to participate as an active member of the health care team;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in an oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health discipline;
- Identifies a commitment to personal continuing education activities;
- Demonstrated understanding and a willingness to participate in self-evaluation;
- Demonstrated understanding of the application and relevance of the nursing audit;
- Demonstrated theoretical knowledge of the Nursing Utilization Collection system and willingness to participate on an ongoing basis;
- Must be eligible to work in Canada.
- BSc.N;
- CMSN(C) - Certified in Medical-Surgical Nursing (Canada).
