We are looking for a Pension & Benefits Administrator to be accountable for the administration and day to day responsibilities of processing timely accurate solutions to complex benefit issues in a manner that supports TCHC’s tenant focus.

This role will respond directly to client inquiries that can be diverse and in-depth and that are received from a variety of sources.

What You’ll Do

  • Full cycle pension and benefits processing/administration from New Hire documentation to date of termination of all employees & those continuing into retirement. Maintain eligibility periods for pension
  • Responsible for year-end submission of Pension Adjustments to OMERS.
  • Responsible for processing and submission of Employee’s Annual Pension Statements to OMERS
  • Responsible for accurately setting up and timely updating of employee pension and benefits information into all systems and early identification of issues within systems.
  • Coordinate retirement processes for retiring employees.
  • Process and verify transactions to update the master/payroll files related to TCHC payroll and personnel matters according to policy, legislative requirements and collective agreements
  • Adhere to ‘grand-parented’ Letters of Agreements within CBA’s
  • Calculates amounts for processing such as pension deductions according to Pension Benefits Act, TCHC policy, CRA and other legislative requirements, Collective Agreements, & established TCHC practices & procedures.
  • Remittance Reconciliation -Processes & reconciles all financial activities related to employee pension and benefits plans, including 3rd party remittances for external organizations in connection with group life insurance, LTD, Dental, Extended Health etc., & pension
  • Communication/Liaise - Administers and provides information to staff on payroll issues and provides timely and proactive communications regarding pension to all levels of staff, government agencies or private companies.
  • Respond to employee request for benefit clarification of family members, taxable benefits, coverage details and service, disability coverage, benefit provider discrepancies
  • HR & Systems Management of Special Situation Payment/Deductions - Processes and/or verifies transactions to update the Master files in HR and Payroll systems related to pension matters according to policy and legislative requirements, collective agreements and TCHC practices and procedures.
  • Verify data integrity and ensure that all systems house identical information.
  • Act as the backup for the Benefits Administrator
  • Provide support to the Disability Management Team
  • Provide reports related to Pension and Benefits as requested by Management and Auditors.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned

What You’ll Need

  • Completed College Diploma in business administration or science, Bachelors Degree preferred
  • Benefits/Pension Certification: Completion of Certified Employee Benefits (CEB) or Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), is an asset
  • 3-5 years specializing in pension administration, preferably in a unionized environment
  • 3 years working knowledge and experience in Defined Benefit Pension plans administration and Benefits
  • Solid experience in administering multiple Defined Benefit Pension plans is considered an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of pension administration and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Extensive experience and proficiency using computerized office/payroll systems (ie MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook, Time and Attendance, Ceridian Insync, Dayforce HRIS).
  • Working knowledge of the Employment Standards Act, Canada Pension Plan, Canada Revenue Agency regulations, Service Canada, EHT, WSIB.
