Job Summary

Job Responsibilities
Strategic Legal Advice
- Be a subject matter expert for labor and employment matters and provide practical, timely and strategic legal advice to SE Health internal stakeholders on legal implications of contracts, policies, and other matters.
- Draft, review, negotiate and provide advice on a broad range of agreements, including various employment agreements, termination packages etc.
- Proactively identify and manage legal organizational risks associated with SE Health’s operations including drafting of policies and procedures, training with applicable laws (e.g. Workplace Investigations), regulations and business objectives.
- Advise on corporate governance, including drafting and review of corporate by-laws, resolutions, policies and procedures.
- Advise on procurement matters, in collaboration with third party sourcing specialists.
- Providing advice to SE Health privacy office on complex privacy and FOI issues including interpretation of PHIPPA, and other provincial and federal privacy legislation.
- Provide legal support for SE Health strategic initiatives.
- Provide advice related to compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Manage litigation throughout claim life cycle, including researching, preparing documents, attending mediations/, arbitration, and providing oversight of external counsel when necessary.
- Collaborate with SVP, Chief Legal, Privacy and Compliance Officer on management of complex legal matters and liaise with external counsel when required.
- Draft precedent documents, including agreements, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate with members of the Legal, Privacy and Compliance department to provide legal support for a wide variety of initiatives.
- Completion of an LLB/JD and licensed to practice law in Ontario, licensing in an alternate Canadian jurisdiction an asset.
- Minimum of five (5) years related legal experience in a law firm or in-house setting with a focus on labor and employment.
- Previous experience practicing in a health setting an asset.
- Strong research, writing, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional negotiation, interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to effectively convey complex legal concepts in an understandable manner to a diverse audience.
- Demonstrate professional judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
- Superior ability to manage time and balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
