AVP – Estate & Trust Solutions

How does the role impact the organization?

Reporting to the CEO, the AVP – Estate & Trust Solutions will be a key member of our Trust team responsible for the growth and business development of estate and trust services in their local region. The successful candidate will be engaged in business development strategies to drive partnership with our Raymond James financial advisors and centers of influence (COI) to leverage the Trust offering for their clients. You are a results-oriented team player capable of acting as a leader in your region developing and implementing initiatives to support the achievement of the Trust Companies strategic goals.

What will your role be responsible for?

  • Work collaboratively with all members of the Solus Trust team to deliver best in class service and support to our clients, internal partners and external stakeholders;
  • Building strategic relationships with Raymond James Advisors & COIs with the goal of enhancing their knowledge and willingness to work in collaboration with our Trust business for the benefit of their HNW clients;
  • Deliver estate planning, trust and estate advice including collaborating with clients’ lawyers and other external advisors to ensure the timely execution of wills, trust deeds and agency agreements where the Trust Company is being appointed;
  • Lead the successful achievement of the regional new business goals and objectives
  • Support the business review and acceptance process for new business and corporate appointments within the region.
  • Develop and implement a business plan for their regional market to ensure the successful achievement of the overall goals and objectives of the region.
  • Leads, coordinates and provides oversight to regional Trust Advisors to ensure the successful achievement of regional goals and service excellence
  • Develop and strengthen relationships and build new relationships with clients, partners, centers of influence with the goal to enhance networking opportunities and new business engagement for the Trust Company;
  • Support the regional roll-out of new initiatives focused on increasing new trust business opportunities
  • Conduct skill builds, client and partner presentations, webinars to enhance the knowledge and understanding of the Estate and Trust offering to our internal and external partners;
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of Trust and Estate Laws, common law and other relevant legislation, case law, and internal policies and procedures;
  • Provide advice and support to members of the Trust Operations teams to resolve matters arising in accounts while adhering to all internal policies and procedures;
  • Recognize when the business risk identified may require external legal counsel and promptly escalate the matter up to the CEO;
  • Liaise with compliance, operations, legal and other related lines of business to resolve system, administrative, risk management and legal issues pertaining to the onboarding on new business; and
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

What do we expect from you?

To qualify for this opportunity you possess:

  • Canadian Law Degree
  • Minimum 5 years of experience and advanced knowledge of relevant legislation for Will, estate and trust administration Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Experience working with HNW clients and their wealth advisors
  • Technical proficiency related to wealth planning strategies such as insurance, philanthropy, taxation
  • STEP or MTI designation would be an asset
  • Exceptional critical thinking and analytical skills so as to identify and resolve diverse, complex and ambiguous issues in a timely and practical manner;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well under pressure;
  • Intra-provincial travel may occasionally be required.

Salary Range: BC (based on Education, Work Experience, etc) $130,000-160,000 in addition to competitive performance bonuses/incentives.
