Scope Of Position

The Director, Investment Finance & Valuations will be responsible for the valuation and analysis of OMERS private equity investments. Primary responsibilities include the review of valuation models and reports, development of portfolio-level analytics and insights, strategic planning, team management and mentorship, and various other activities in support of both the Finance (Valuations & Reporting) and Investment teams, as required.

To support these responsibilities, the successful candidate must have strong interpersonal skills; experience coaching and mentoring teams; extensive experience in valuations, financial modelling, financial reporting and analysis; and a willingness to learn new skills and systems.

We believe that time together in the office is important for OMERS, the strength of our employees, and the work we do for our pension members. Our flexible hybrid work guideline requires teams to come to the office a minimum of 4 days per week.

As a member of this team, you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting quarterly reviews of private equity portfolio investment valuations, including overseeing the development of valuation models and reviewing valuation memos and reports
  • Establishing valuation parameters within the annual strategic planning process, encompassing forecasting, budgeting, and projecting investment values and returns for portfolio investments
  • Collaborating with Investment, Risk and Total Portfolio Management teams to review past performance, strategy, outlook, regulatory issues, and other emerging factors that could impact portfolio investment value
  • Monitoring market events and developments, assessing portfolio and industry trends, and evaluating their impact on asset valuations
  • Managing team interactions and processes with external auditors and valuators to review and support valuation conclusions
  • Supporting and participating in decision-making through valuation analysis and portfolio analytics
  • Leading a team, identifying engagement and mentorship opportunities
  • Monitoring existing valuation processes and systems, identifying opportunities to realize efficiencies, and assisting in the implementation of strategic initiatives to promote continuous improvement of valuation policies, procedures, and processes

To Succeed In This Role, You Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in valuations and financial reporting, including a minimum of 3+ years in a management role
  • Chartered Business Valuation (CBV) designation strongly preferred; other professional designations such as the CPA or CFA designation are an asset
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, with experience working with complex financial models
  • Experience with business intelligence tools (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau, Alteryx) is an asset
  • Exceptional analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities, capable of presenting findings clearly and professionally to various stakeholders
  • Proven experience in leading and mentoring junior staff, fostering knowledge-sharing across teams
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with internal and external shareholders, while thriving in a fast-paced environment
