CNC Machinist

Westport Fuel Systems in Cambridge, On designs and manufactures a comprehensive product mix of alternative fuel components for applications in the light and heavy-duty vehicle and industrial segments globally. This product mix includes Hydrogen (H2) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) components such as pressure regulators, tank valves, PRD's, PRV’s, shutoff valves and integrated systems for a wide range of applications, including Fuel Cell vehicles.

Position Purpose

This is an exciting opportunity to make a difference in the growing alternative fuels industry. We're looking for energetic and motivated team members to further improve our product offerings for H2 and CNG components.

Position Responsibilities

• Machine components on CNC and manual machines
• Set-up CNC machines for new jobs
• Modify CNC programs where necessary to optimize set-up
• Measure parts as necessary to confirm they are meeting drawings
• Troubleshoot machine issues as necessary
• Perform some maintenance as necessary to machines
• Deburr and clean parts as necessary

Health & Safety Responsibilities

• Promote Westport’s H&S culture following all Environmental, and H&S procedures and understanding your obligations and responsibilities
• Report unsafe conditions, behaviors and all accidents
• Co-operate with JHSC (Joint Health & Safety Committee) and Safety representative

Qualifications:

• Effective communication skills & ability to work within a team
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
• Ability to read and interpret engineering machining drawings
• Experience with CNC machines
• Proven Experience with manual machining (lathe, mill)
• Proven Experience setting up new jobs on CNC and other machines
• Experience with appropriate measurement tools to verify WIP machined parts are meeting drawing
• Experience with programming CNC machines considered an asset

Education:

Appropriate CNC machining license, relevant diploma or suitable work experience

Salary Range

This role offers a competitive compensation and benefits program including a salary within our hiring range of $55,000-$60,000. Salary is dependent on numerous factors including skills and experience.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:

This is an afternoon shift position working from 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. This position performs physical work where components up to 40 lbs. may need to be lifted into or out of machines as well as the use of various tools. This position also requires the ability to move throughout the building to interact with others. This position occasionally uses a computer terminal to access, input and retrieve data.
