Position Summary
The Grassroots Growth Specialist will play a vital role in expanding the game of hockey within the Ottawa market and surrounding communities. This position is responsible for planning, executing, and managing grassroots initiatives, including youth and adult hockey programs, summer camps, tournaments and other minor hockey outreach. The goal is to increase participation, engagement, and long-term hockey revenue aligned with the mission and values of the PWHL.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for planning, executing, and managing grassroots initiatives, including youth and adult hockey programs, summer camps, tournaments and other minor hockey outreach. The goal is to increase participation, engagement, and long-term hockey revenue aligned with the mission and values of the PWHL.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan, facilitate and execute camps, clinics and tournaments in the local market and surrounding markets ensuring high quality experience for all participants.
- Oversee the administration and logistics of summer camps, including registration, staffing, and programming.
- Coordinate “Day Off School” activities, offering youth opportunities to engage with the team during breaks and holidays.
- Lead and manage the “Ready, Set, Skate” program, and serve as the lead instructor for all sessions.
- Partner with local youth hockey organizations and tournaments to promote the sport in rinks, schools, youth centers, and community groups.
- Develop and execute adult hockey clinics, Fantasy Camps and events to engage fans and increase participation in recreational hockey.
- Organize and support leadership panels, community discussions, and similar hockey-related events to drive ticket sales and awareness.
- Assist in planning and execution of open practices, giving fans behind-the-scenes access to the team.
- Work with the marketing, social impact and ticketing teams to brainstorm around various grassroots programming to broaden fan engagement strategies.
- Maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including local hockey organizations, schools, and community groups.
- Track and report on program participation, effectiveness, and opportunities for growth.
- Collaborate with PWHL league staff on best practices and help plan out of market initiatives to generate fan growth and engagement.
- Work with sponsorship and partnership teams to integrate brand activations into grassroots events.
- Oversee programming budget, including managing program P&Ls, tracking expenses, and facilitating necessary purchases.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management, Marketing, Education or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience in hockey development, youth programming or community engagement
- Passion for growing the game of hockey and engaging with diverse communities
- Familiarity with USA Hockey and Hockey Canada programs and initiatives, preferred
- Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks and set priorities
- Strong skating ability; coaching experience preferred
- Strong work ethic, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to deal with various constituents in a timely and professional manner
- Ability to travel internationally (as needed) as well as work evenings and weekends
