The J.D. Irving Sawmills Division is currently seeking a motivated individual to join our Truro Sawmill team in Truro, NS as an Electrical Engineer
Responsibilities
- Manage and execute electrical, instrumentation and automation projects of varying magnitude, interface with other disciplines and external stakeholders across multiple locations
- Recommends E&I process/equipment improvements to support strategic initiatives
- Develop concepts for capital improvements outlining scope, benefits, cost estimates and schedules
- Provide commissioning and start-up support
- Provide trouble-shooting assistance and technical expertise as required
- Work with engineering consultants and contractors ensuring project design and execution is in accordance with company standards and applicable codes and regulations
- Oversee the design, specification, and installation of all electrical equipment; including transformers, switch gear, MCC’s, Motors and controls.
- Be the subject matter expert for power distribution lockout.
- Oversees the electrical infrastructure of the plant and provides input to the maintenance team to maintain the electrical equipment.
- Assisting with the continuous improvement of existing and new processing equipment.
- Working with the maintenance and operations teams to determine the specifications for new equipment and plant upgrades
- Oversee the design, specification, and installation of mechanical equipment; including conveyors, pumps, and processing systems.
- Providing direction/input in the tender, analysis and award of engineering and construction contracts.
- Monitoring project activities including cost and schedule within assigned area and providing timely updates to management.
- Coordinating, scheduling and supervising the installation of new equipment with internal and external support
- Providing field support during project construction and commissioning activities.
- Ownership of electrical savings opportunities from idea to completion
- The main plant contact for the local electrical power company
- Complete scheduled safety documentation to meet KPI
- Manage electrical team planning and schedule
- Manage electrical inspections internal and external
- Available on-call for subject matter support
- Electrical Engineering Degree
- 5-10 years of prior experience in heavy industrial projects and/or field construction
- Ability to successfully execute within a team environment
- Exceptional communication skills, verbal and written
- Must demonstrate ownership, initiative, attention-to-detail, and a drive to ensure things are done right the first time
- Above-average planning and organizational skills
- Experience with electrical system design, instrumentation and automation (including power transforms, switchgear, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, instrumentation, PLCs Allen Bradley and Schneider, and DCS)
