Summary of position:

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and managing the methods engineering and CNC programming teams to ensure the successful design, development, and implementation of projects related to highly complex Landing Gear components and systems. This role involves overseeing all engineering and programming activities with the support of the Methods and Programming Supervisors, coordinating with cross-functional teams, to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will also be responsible for mentoring and developing the engineering and programming teams, managing resources, developing innovative solutions for new product development projects, identifying new manufacturing technologies and the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives across the plant.

Strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to manage multiple complex projects are essential. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in advanced manufacturing technology, manufacturing process optimization and improvement techniques.

Main responsibilities:

  • Manage both Methods Engineering and Programming teams for the Kitchener location and provide support to the Cambridge location as/if needed.
  • Managing the design, implementation and optimization of automated manufacturing systems
  • Manages the new part process development.
  • Develops and manages the Methods department budget, long and short-term plans/goals.
  • In coordination with Program Management jointly responsible for the quotation process.
  • Responsible for Engineering department compliance with AS9100 quality system requirements.
  • Liaises with customers and outside agencies with regards to engineering issues.
  • Liaises with management team and internal customers with regards to engineering issues.
  • Involved in special projects and supplier development.
  • Develops and maintains departmental infrastructure to ensure optimal resources and support are provided to internal and external customers.
  • Monitors and develops the methods and programming staff’s skills to .
  • Leading technical teams and coordinating cross functional/inter-site teams
  • Finding new opportunities to lead process improvement initiatives
  • Follow safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Support capital projects for the acquisition of new manufacturing equipment and technologies.
  • Lead the automation/robotics steering committee between several locations
  • Function as the Kitchener site lead on the automation steering committee.
  • Perform other duties assigned by leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace/mechanical/Automation/Manufacturing related fields and minimum of 7 years with practical experience managing a manufacturing engineering department preferably within a highly regulated industry & complex product reality like aerospace.
  • In-depth knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, inspection, non-destructive inspection and special processing (e.g. heat treating, electrochemical plating and coating) processes typically used in the aerospace or similar industry.
  • Proficiency in typical tools such as CAD/CAM, ERP
  • Familiar with machining techniques
  • Up to date on the emerging technologies within the industry
  • Understanding of methods/programming tools and concepts (CATIA, Vericut etc)
  • Ability to take a dynamic role in the decision-making processes.
  • Strong project management, leadership/supervisory skills.
  • Ability to coach and mentor staff to develop and maintain astrong and dynamic team.
  • Understanding of AS9100 and its impact on the position requirements.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to interact with co-workers and customers in a positive and professional manner adhering to all company policies, procedures and health and safety requirements.
