As a crucial member of the Clinical Learning and Simulation Centre (CLSC) team, the Simulation Solutions Specialist plays a key role in supporting simulation curriculum delivery. The primary role of this position is to oversee and assist in the operation of the specialized clinical simulation solution utilized in the CLSC, as well as other technical Audio/Video hardware and software utilized to assist with improving educational outcomes and performances for both standardized and manikin-based training. Experience in AV systems support is required

As an internal resource to all groups within the CLSC and Medical Laboratories. This role will be crucial in the programming needs for Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), which is the summative exam for medical learners, as well as assisting with digital resources involved in curriculum delivery during medical laboratories. It also provides support in tracking schedules and supporting AV equipment. They will be CLSC and Medical Laboratories technical experts for students, faculty and staff via telephone, email and in-person interactions. This position may require some off-hours work due to the nature and responsibilities of these systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Simulation Solutions Manager in the operation, support and training of the specialized clinical software solution and equipment within the CLSC (Laerdal, LLEAP, EMS SimulationIQ, and more)
  • Provide support for Medical Laboratory AV technology, such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) (HoloAnatomy, Anatomage Table)
  • Maintaining and demonstrating the proper usage of the Multimedia Room’s camera and microphone recording system for podcasting, audio/video recordings
  • Troubleshoot and service AV equipment within the CLSC using software, hand tools, and ladders to maintain manikins, cameras, microphones, PCs, and other AV systems
  • Interaction with confidential video recordings of healthcare learners
  • Working closely with the IT department to ensure network security, data integrity, and compliance with institutional policies and best practices are followed
  • Monitoring system performance, identify bottlenecks, provide solutions collaboratively with ITSS, documenting work performed.
  • Setting up specialized AV equipment related to simulation devices, for ex. manikins, wireless speakers, microphones, wireless routers used when conducting simulation activities
  • Providing support and monitoring of the 3D printing equipment and processes within the CLSC
  • Installing and configuring clinical software solutions, simulation software, and related applications on simulation workstations
  • Ensure compatibility and interoperability of IT systems within the CLSC, for example interaction with manikin and simulation management solutions
  • Assist in the calibration of cameras, audio systems and other AV equipment to ensure optimal performance
  • Assisting in the setup of the AV and paging system required for summative exams of medical learners
  • Continuously monitoring the performance of AV systems and clinical software during simulations to identify and address any issues
  • Diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues identified by clients, co-workers, or monitoring systems promptly to minimize downtime
  • Following standard procedures for system operation and maintenance, and ensuring they are followed by other departmental staff
  • Confirming system backups and restore processes are tested regularly
  • Performing other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completion of a 2-year Electronics Engineering Technology program or a related field of study
  • 3 years of related experience in Audio Visual technology or healthcare simulation technology support
  • Professional Audio Video experience is required
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) and AVIXA CTS certification, is an asset or willingness to become certified within 3 years of employment
