General Practice Lawyer for mid-size, full service law firm client, Midland Ontario office.

Job Type: Full-Time Permanent.

Compensation: From $70,000 to $100,000 per annum according to experience, plus comprehensive benefits.

Work Location: Hybrid - combination of 2 days remote-based and 3 days onsite at client's Midland, Ontario office. Onsite work expectations subject always to client business requirements, and may change according to client business need.


Responsibilities Summary:

Carry a varied caseload in civil and commercial litigation, corporate and commercial law, real estate transactions, and wills and estates, utilizing excellent advocacy, interpersonal and communication skills to manage files independently with support from senior counsel as needed, growing your existing general practice within a well established and reputable firm.

  • Handle civil litigation matters from intake through to resolution, including court appearances, mediations, and negotiations.
  • Prepare pleadings, motion materials, affidavits, and settlement documentation.
  • Conduct legal research, case strategy, and manage court deadlines.
  • Advise clients on incorporations, corporate structuring, shareholder agreements, and business transactions.
  • Draft and review commercial contracts and leases.
  • Assist clients with purchases and sales of businesses, reorganizations, and compliance matters.
  • Manage residential and commercial real estate transactions.
  • Conduct title searches, draft closing documents, and facilitate closings.
  • Address real property issues including easements, encroachments, and title concerns.
  • Prepare wills, powers of attorney, and related estate planning documents.
  • Advise clients on estate planning strategies and asset distribution.
  • Handle estate administration and probate matters.
  • Additional legal representation, advisory and business development related responsibilities as required.


Qualifications:

Education: LL.B. or J.D. degree from a recognized law school.

Professional Credentials: Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.

Preferred Work Experience: Approximately 3+ years of general law practice experience.

Sector Experience: Law firm experience required.


Technical and Language Skills Requirements:

  • Proficiency with legal case management, legal billings, legal research, and legal documents management applications.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Advanced English communication skills, both written and verbal.


Task -Based Qualifications and Additional Attributes:

  • Should have an active general practice, including litigation, corporate, real estate and will and estates.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
  • Strong client relationship management skills and business development orientation.


Additional Requirements:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request.
  • Ability to work both remotely and onsite, abiding by organization health and safety policies.
  • Ability to declare personal Non-Conflict of Interest in execution of position responsibilities.
  • Satisfactory Background Checks and Employment References.
