Primary responsibility of this position is the preparation and creation of CAD drawings with SolidWorks associated with Prime, a RESA Power Company Engineering jobs and projects. The position requires the use of creativity and practical problem solving to develop new product designs that meet the customer needs while being cost effective and easy to assemble. The mechanical design Intern is the advocate for the mechanical design aspects of a project, helping to guide the project to a successful completion.

Responsibilities

  • Able to learn RESA and location product offerings. Able to take direction and learn location’s processes and/or applicable customer processes.
  • Take part in meetings both internally, and externally with clients
  • Prepare drawings including, general arrangements, sub assembly drawings, part drawings and occasionally electrical drawings
  • Prepare electrical equipment and drawings lists and specification as required
  • Follow project or departmental standards related to the work, taking direction and instructions from project engineers and managers associated with the design
  • Propose creative and innovative ways of improving drafting and design costs and efficiency
  • Assist in creating and submitting progress and technical reports
  • Adhere to, implement, and maintain drafting standards and techniques
  • Write specifications for structural and mechanical equipment
  • Prepare, or assist in the preparation of, project documentation including technical reports, operation and maintenance manuals, project design basis, construction work packages and drawings
  • Responsible for keeping all project files/materials/equipment stored neatly and clearly identified in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Under supervision of the Drafting and Mechanical Design Manager, provide engineering calculations and analysis for equipment designs.
  • Calculate quantities, distances, weights and special requirements as necessary and under direction of the project engineer.
  • All work and decisions shall be conducted in strict compliance of all regulatory laws.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

Required Experience And Qualifications

  • High School diploma/GED and minimum 1 year of experience in a related field or currently pursuing higher education
  • Proficient in all aspects of MS Office skills
  • Experience with SolidWorks is considered an asset
  • Mechanical aptitude is essential
  • Knowledge of heat transfer mechanics and basic beam strength calculations an asset
  • Ability to manage work to deadline

  • Must be able to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
  • Good theoretical understanding of electricity and a good aptitude for problem solving.

  • Work effectively with customers, peers and management to resolve client issues.
  • Strong computer skills with working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office- use of Internet for standards/products/manufacturer research
  • For positions that utilize a company vehicle, will be required to have a valid driver’s license.

Additional Information

Physical Demands: Lifting a maximum of 50lbs on a daily, crawling, climbing, standing for long periods of time, and working in non-ideal conditions.
