What Will You Do
The Supervisor, Airfield Electrical is a people leader who ensures the 24/7 safety, functionality, and efficiency of electrical systems within an airport environment. The role is pivotal in overseeing the maintenance and repair of all electrical systems, both groundside and on the airfield. This position ensures compliance with the Visual Aid Maintenance Program, Electrical Safety Program, TP312, and the Canadian Electrical Code.
The Supervisor, Airfield Electrical manages multiple crews of airfield electrical workers, their resources and their workorders. The role is responsible for reporting asset lifecycle or reliability issues to the Airfield Manager for capital planning and spares management.

What Are Some Of The Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance of airfield and groundside lighting systems, including runway and taxiway lights, navigational aids, and associated control systems.
- Review and comment on safety and operational plans.
- Ensure quality control of the work performed through audits, inspections, reviews and examination of maintained equipment and workorders.
- Develop and participate in operations plans in conjunction with the airfield electrical manager, contractors, and airport operations to eliminate/minimize operational disruptions and planned shutdowns. Review schedules and communicate activities to the electrical department.
- Communicate, prepare and deliver operational reports and advisories.
- People leadership, train and mentor staff, promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Develop Preventative Maintenance plans ensure activities are entered into the P.M. program.
- Provide other assistance and expertise as required, responding to electrical emergencies, being present and assisting in critical electrical shutdowns.
- Assist the Airfield Manager and Electrical GM with strategic capital upgrade planning and spares management.
- The ability to gain and maintain a RAIC (RAIC Program and Application Information).
- Graduation from an apprenticeship program with interprovincial certification, the electrical trade is designated as a “proficiency” trade by provincial legislation; therefore, certification is mandatory to practice.
- 5+ years’ experience as a Qualified Airfield Electrician in the areas of maintenance and commercial and industrial installations.
- 1+ years’ experience leading a team of direct reports in an operational environment.
- Knowledge of the CEC, TP312, CSA-Z462.
- Ability to read electrical drawings, single line drawings, schematic drawings.
- Strong leadership and team coordination skills, with the ability to mentor and develop technical staff.
- Knowledge of safety procedures, equipment and related tools.
- Understanding of high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems and their applications in airfield environments.
- Knowledge of airfield lighting systems, including constant current regulators, series circuits, and isolation transformers.
- Strong organizational and planning skills to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and digital tools used for scheduling, reporting, and documentation.
- Ability to interpret and work with SCADA systems or other control and monitoring platforms.
- Knowledge of aviation-specific standards and regulations (e.g., ICAO Annex 14, Transport Canada regulations).
- Understanding of environmental and occupational health and safety legislation applicable to airfield operations.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for reporting, documentation, and cross-departmental collaboration.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License or equivalent, subject to a clean driver’s abstract.
- Bilingual in English or French
